“Homey B&B in a great location, but a few issues”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

We stayed at the Garden Street Inn for two nights in February 2013 -- selecting it primarily because the out-of-state friends we were meeting had already made reservations here. The location is excellent (just a block from downtown with its restaurants, bars and shops), the staff is very friendly, our room (the "Ah Louis") was clean & comfortable with a reasonably modern bathroom & cable TV, and the Inn offers free Wi-Fi. The building is a 19th-century Victorian home refurbished in the mid-1990s as a B&B, and while the original renovations were done well (each room with a particular theme) the place is starting to show its age and needs a bit of TLC.

Breakfast: although a few other reviews on this site were unhappy with the breakfast, I thought the food was pretty good and typical of a larger B&B. Be aware that the dining room seating capacity is significantly less than the hotel occupancy, so when they're full you may have to wait a bit for breakfast.

Parking: there is no on-site parking (you'll find this buried on their website), and while they are still validating for parking in the nearby city garage they've instituted a daily parking fee. It's certainly reasonable to charge separately for parking (many people don't bring a car) but that should be clearly disclosed when making a reservation. Oddly, I was NOT charged even though we did drive -- but our friends were charged for parking and had to argue to have the charge removed.

“Yes and No”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

Great location. Breakfast: food and service marginal at best. Large room in handsome old building badly in need of some serious up-grading. Staff very nice. Nonetheless for the price it was o.k. Not a high-end experience and not a high-end price. I would return and not expect too much.

Room Tip: First floor.

“Soaking Tub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

They offered me a room with jaczzi, and I said OK! But they thought I'd prefer the room with a soaking tub, so I looked thinking the jacuzzi would be wonderful, and when I saw the soaking tub, I said ok-ok. Homey kind of place, good breakfast, and close to the college town bars and restaurants. Very quiet. Systems perfect for a traveler just off the Amtrak, 6 blocks away, perfect in fact, but book in advance, I was lucky on this hotel.

Room Tip: enough said, soaking tub big enough for 2 but one is heaven

“Romantic hotel in 19th centery way.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012 via mobile

The hotel itself is worth of seeing. All rooms seems to be different. The location is excelent. Only one block to the downtown. The staff is wonderfull. If you are looking a modern hotel with unpersonal room this is not for you. Due to small amount of rooms, you can't wait 24h lobby service.

“Beautiful rooms in a nice area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

The Garden Street Inn is a really nice and beautiful B&B. The main attraction are the rooms: each room has it's own device. They are arranged with much love for details. The B&B is in the centre of San Luis Obispo (such a nice little city full of stuents!). The breakfast is not very big, but pretty good tasting!
