“Brunch on the Patio California style”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

Brunch Sunday morning next to the small stream is a lovely way to start the day. The food was great, savory crepes, egg dishes and lots of fruit. Try the Bellini! Dress in layers, it can be cool or warm depending on the sun. If you try to enter on the street side, go on in and walk to the patio. Its worth it!

“Overrated brunch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Brunch at Novo in San Luis Obispo can be an adventure and not just because you enjoy the flora and fauna of the babbling brook below the romantic outdoor patio. Yes the outdoor scenery is relaxing, but the food and service is wildly uneven.

Nothing says "hello Sunday morning" like a Bloody Mary and Novo's signature sounds amazing with bacon-infused vodka and a promised skewer of lemon, pearl onion, bacon and a blue cheese stuffed olive. But then the drink arrives and has none of those elements. The waitress perfectly nice and accommodating, comping that mistake and brining a fresh one with theropod ingredients intact and, yes, bacon always does make everything better. Even drinks.

Then my wife orders the shrimp, avocado and goat cheese scramble and is delivered...the andouille sausage and red pepper scramble. Even the runner announces the shrimp dish as he sets the quite obvious sausage dish in front of us. His obliviousness is comical. College town...Sunday morning...hungover...I get it.

What I don't get is the poor excuse for huevos rancheros. Two soggy tortillas smothered with black beans and tomatillo salsa with what's described as two fried eggs but are more runny than a Kenyan expat at a marathon. At over $12 this plate would barely suffice as an appetizer.

When the shrimp scramble does arrive it's not bad. Crunchy shrimp with the creamy goat cheese makes a nice compliment to the sweet avocado. The breakfast potatoes are gays and flaccid and the whole grain bread is over toasted to cinder block.

The appetizer spring rolls with mint and baby shrimp is refreshing but pales next to authentic Vietnamese rolls and the fact you have to ask for Sirracha sauce makes the dish just seem lazy.

“NOVO, smile , you are in for a treat!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

NOVO, smile , you are in for a treat! The friendly staff, the chefs creations, the ambience, the creekside patio seating.Go ahead and order it's all good. I've yet to walk away thinking, "I paid for this?" Out of town guests, friends and family are pointed to "Novos!" Bon apetite.

“Best restaurant in Avila”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

I was in Avila for a month and ate at this incredible restaurant 8 times! Service is amazing and the food is EXCELLENT !! The back patio is romantic and fun, November nights can get down right chilly In November in Avila but the quantity of heaters keeps the outdoor patio feeling like indoors. A must..

“classic California cool”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

My first visit ..party of three including two locals..and with later film reservations the staff cooly moved things along for us. Due drizzle we stayed indoors though the patio area looked so nice and inviting we considered one of the big umbrellas !
Place was uba cool-great looking cocktails at the bar....some matching clientel as well...and our food-"pacific rim" style arrived in good time and looked and tasted wonderful
The bill was modest considering and would strongly advise anyone to try it...prob best to prebook in the evening though
