One of the last Drive-in left it goes without saying you have to take your kids to a drive-in. It bring back the family memories for my childhood.

“Best Movie in Town!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

This was the first drive-in experience for our kids ages 11 and 13. We all had a great time. The snack area and bathrooms were clean. The movie started right on time. The prices were great as far as movie theaters go - the entry was cheap for a double feature, and the snack bar prices were about 1/2 the regular theater prices - we actually got popcorn and candy for the price of a popcorn at a regular theater. It was cool to see the old platter reels the movies were playing on - a real blast from the past. It has been over 15 years since we've been to a drive-in, and I think this will be a "must visit" every time we are in the area.

“No Better Theatre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

You would be throwing away your money if you went anywhere else! This place is the best for several reasons. First, the price! Adults are $7 and kids $2 (maybe $3) now. My whole family (of 5) gets in for $25. You can maybe get two tickets for that price at a conventional theatre. Second reason (if the price wasn't enough), you get to watch two movies! Usually the first movie is for the kids and the secong for adults, but not always. Either way, two movies for that price, unbelievable! And if you want to leave after the first movie, or only come for the second you don't feel jipped. Third reason, you get to sit in the comfort of your own car. No more listeining to other people talk, or that tall person in front of you blocking your view. This makes it good family fun. Fourth, you can bring in your own food and they don't care. And if you firget your food the proces there are super cheap. A large popcorn is $4.50 with a free refill. You could at best get a small popcorn for that price at a regular theatre. Candy, soda, and other items are cheap like that too. Last, the drive-in is just cool! Enough said...

“A blast from the past!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

WOW! This is an old-fashioned movie drive in that my husband went to in the 60's and we've been been frequenting together for the past 10 years with our 3 dogs and cat whenever we make it to San Luis Obispo. These are pretty rare to find these days, and this one is the best.
For those of you not familiar with the concept, you will actually pull into a huge outdoor movie theatre in your car and tune your car radio to the instructed station. Then you watch a movie... from your car.
People bring their whole families and lawn chairs and food. The kids sit in the chairs while the parents are in the car.
Sunset has a old timey snack bar with all kinds of food. I can't tell you what it is like because we have only had the popcorn. The popcorn is wonderful and when you buy a large one the next one is free. Buy a large drink and the refill is only $1.
They usually show two movies, another great idea called a double feature, a given in days gone by. It's so fun to watch the genuine old timey adds to go to the snack bar.
Everytime we are there, we find people who have never been to or even heard of a drive-in and are having tons of fun.
Remember to bring plenty of blankets for the cool SLO nights, even in the summer. As we travel with our pets, if you do the same, please bring pet pick-ups just in case. Going to the Sunset is such a wonderful thing, lets keep it going.
Thank you Sunset Theatre for keeping this wonderful SLO tradition alive. We LOVE you!
