“Great location, with an edge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2011

We enjoyed this place a lot: rooms are dated and in need of repair. But clean, bed was confortable, grrat hot tub outside, secluded location, feels like you are in the middle of the forest. Restaurant was excellent, great dinner and breakfast, fresh ingredients shine through. Can take nice walks in the grounds, free yoga and play in the labeeynth. Also kid friendly. Great service.

Spent one night on a Standard room with a mineral hot tub. The view from the balcony is not as nice as the view from the hourly rental tubs, wherein you feel as if you"re in the middle of a forest. The room was not luxurious, just average but clean. There are plenty of hiking trails nearby. It's also close to Pismo and Shell Beach.

The mineral hot tub by itself made the entire stay worth it. They also offer free yoga classes and access to their sister property Avila Hot Springs.

Standard room had old scratched up TV stand. 40 year old card table for coffee maker stand. No artwork on walls. Carpet dark and suspect. Cracks in tile grout in bathroom unattended to. Heater required maitenance to come fix. Toilet broke and would not flush. Mineral springs sulfar smell very overpowering. Super funky experience for the money. Internet connection and bedding excellent.

We stayed in one of the newer suites. It was spacious, comfortable and quiet, under the trees, with a conventional hot tub on the deck (not mineral water). We enjoyed hiking the trail behind the property up to the ridge with spectacular views of the ocean, and took the hiking/bicycle trail right outside our door to Avila Beach. The hotel swimming pool was comfortable and warm, but did not have a changing facility except as part of a spa package--which we did not use. Note that the newer units require a 3- minute walk to the parking area, restaurant and other facilities, but staff will drive you and your luggage in their golf carts. Overall, the resort provided us a tranquil retreat in a lovely setting.

This review is for the spa at Sycamore Springs. (I haven't stayed in the rooms.) Even if you're not staying here, book a massage and soak in the mineral springs. You will be so happy you did! First you change into a robe and flip flops, soak in the hot tubs and get nice and relaxed before your massage. The hot tubs are all private and mixed in throughout the trees. It's so beautiful, relaxing and private. Just wonderful! The staff will let you know when it's time to dry off for your spa treatment. I've been there many times and all the massage therapists are qualified, experienced and friendly. Prices are pretty normal for massage and spa treatments. Highly recommend them. Super wonderful place! Give this place a try, you'll be glad you did!

I noticed the somewhat poor reviews, but those are mostly unfounded. We stayed in a queen suite called quest it was large, clean and comfortable. Now the bed can be a challenge it is quite high so if your short watch out. The food in the restaurant is very good plus the staff seem very polite and cordial. They offer alot you have jogging/bike trails, spa is fantastic, and yoga. Also I took the free shuttle to laetitia winery. The grounds are well maintained plus you are only 2 miles from the ocean. You do have your hot tub but you have to fill it yourself I chose fresh water.

You can tell when you stay here that this resort has so much history which is fun. The rooms are large as they were once built for those who needed therapy, to come and stay for weeks. It is a very peaceful environment. Hiking, cycling, exercising are right outside your door. The sleepy beach town of Avila is just 2 miles away.
