“A nice place to stay in San Leandro, CA”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2012

We stayed here for 3 days while on our vacation to California the summer of 2011. We have friends in the area & a co-worker suggested this hotel. Our room was clean and spacious w/ a balcony that faced the marina and had a fridge. They have a "business center" that is free for guests - which comes in VERY handy if you need computer access to check on flights, reservations @ other hotels along the way OR in our case the possibility of inclement weather. If I remember correctly, they even have cookies & milk in the evenings for guests. Their continental breakfast was nicer than most we've seen & we enjoyed that every morning before heading out to see the local sights. The staff were always helpful & friendly. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if in the area.

Room Tip: We had a lovely view of the marina w/ a balcony - however, those rooms do cost a little more per nig...

We have been staying at the Marina in for many years and the experience is always great. The rates are very reasonable for the Bay area and you are just a short BART ride from downtown SF or a short drive to the Valley. The rooms are clean and roomy, with very comfortable beds. The staff is helpful and friendly. We have stayed at The Marina on business trips as well as for vacation trips. The meeting rooms are very user friendly and provide the needed privacy. Horatio's Restaurant next door to the Inn provides a place for a business lunch or dinner. The Inn has an exerise room, outdoor pool and hot tub.

When booking a room ask for a room on the marina side of the hotel so that you may step out on the balcony and view the Bay and the boats docked in the marina.

Room Tip: Marina side junior suite

We've stayed at the San Leandro Marina Inn twice using their park and fly program. It's a great way to get a good night's sleep before an early morning flight. It's nice to be able to park the car for the week and not pay extra. The shuttle to the airport is quick and takes the back way to the airport. The only downside is that it runs from 6 am to 11 pm so if you have a flight outside of that timeframe you'll have to cab it (about $20). The shuttle drivers are friendly and courteous.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. We requested a quiet room (I have noticed that there can be groups of louder guests, especially on weekends but staff was very quick to acknowledge and address any problems). After we came back from our weeklong vacation, the gentleman at the front desk (who had checked us in the prior week) recognized me, welcomed me back and asked about my vacation.

The continental breakfast is good - it's pretty extensive given that it's a continental breakfast - breads, pastries, hardboiled eggs, cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, hot cereal, coffee, tea, and juices.

The rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room. We were on the 2nd floor which helped.

In spite of the fact that the walls are thin at the Marina Inn, and regardless of the fact that it appears to be a common home for loud, young groups of revelers visiting for the night, I kind of liked it. Kind of.

No, it is not a "jewel" of a hotel, but it beats any chain in its class. The front desk staff is quite friendly, and the breakfast spread is out early. It also has a lovely view of the bay, providing you get a room facing that way, rather than the parking lot. It does have a certain charm, but do not expect more than "charm" and clean sheets.

Everything else you could find in your typical Comfort Inn.

Most importantly, were you to choose to stay at The Marina Inn, do not take a first floor room facing the street. You will be SORELY disappointed. A top floor room, with a balcony facing the marina is the ONLY way you'll get "charmed" by this hotel.

I have traveled all over the world and found the Marina Inn to be a perfect jewel of a hotel. The price was more
than reasonable for the many services and comforts provided. The room was spotless every day and the complimentary breakfast exceptional, far more than the usual sweet buns and coffee offered by most as a Continental breakfast. Staff went out of their way to help you get your bearings to the area and the many options open for getting into San Francisco or exploring the Oakland bay side. My family from New Zealand was visiting inlaws in San Leandro and they were pleased with the ease of getting to me from where they were staying.
I will certainly be back as a guest and have no reservations about recommending to all.

Room Tip: Third floor room have best view of the marina. I was on the second floor and could still see bay wa...

I stayed at "The Marina Inn" on recommendation of a local business contact. It was a pleasant surprise and one of those rare occurances where expectations were not only met, but vastly exceeded ! Friendly and helpful staff, great (free) breakfast, nice view of the bay, cookies and milk at night, the list goes on. They even have nice quality 'loaner' bikes for a nice pedal around. Nothing but good suprises - - - highly recommend especially for the price. I don't just hand out "5 Star" (excellent) ratings, but the Marina Inn deserves it.
(Note - don't expect a 5 star ritz carlton....it's a great 3.5 STAR hotel...a dying breed of privately owned and managed by people that obviously care).

Couple of tips:
1. Horatios (Tex Mex rest about 200 yards away). Was fun with decent food and good view of bay.
2. If you are a golfer, bring your clubs. Nice 9 hole "fun" course right across the street and serious looking Monach Bay course next to it. Nice driving range too.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the bay is a definite plus.

The hotel had cookies (and milk!) available at check in. There is plenty of parking. There is a restaurant called "Horatio's" next door, and when I asked at the front desk about it, they gave me a coupon for a free appetizer. The front desk person gave us a complementary upgrade from a queen to a king room, which was nice of them. The hotel and the room itself is fairly standard, not extra luxurious, but they did have a mini fridge in the room, and our main floor room had sliding glass doors to a small outdoor patio (about the size of a balcony) next to the marina. The bathroom sink is separate from the tub and toilet area, which has a fan linked to the light switch. The bathroom was very clean (but not too fancy, and the tub/shower combo had sliding doors instead of a shower curtain.) The breakfast had quite a variety, but was fairly standard (except for the fresh grapes - yum.) The breakfast area also had a bookshelf/library with lots of interesting looking novels. I found the bed comfortable, and the wifi worked. The room smelled neutral (which is a big plus for someone with a sensitive nose like me).

Room Tip: One side looks over the marina, and the other side looks over a very pretty golf course. I am sure b...
