“Comfortable, would stay again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

I booked this hotel through Expedia for a brief business trip, and I enjoyed my stay. I got a first floor room facing the road (neither set-up is my favorite), but the room was spacious, clean, comfy, and even had an extra sink outside of the bathroom. Decor was outdated, and the TV was clearly very old -- but everything was in good working order. No problems with noise.

Breakfast was well-stocked and well-maintained. Mostly continental, with some boiled eggs and fruits, decent selection. Staff was quite friendly. Would stay again.

Room Tip: My room on the first floor, facing the road, was quite good. Didn't have any problems with nois...

Wifi worked. A bit remote from some things. If this location works for you, this is a decent hotel. Clean. Nothing fancy. Breakfast was fine. Handy laundry machine, but yes, having change available would be helpful. Covered parking spaces on the back building (two buildings). Generous with late check out.

First I asked if rooms were available and only a suit over 200 was "available". Magically online 99 Rooms were available. Wifi was slow. .93 Mbps slow. The vending machine stole a dollar. The front desk had no change for Laundry. 60 minutes in the drier did not dry the cloths. Security is poor as outside doors don't close. I have paid half as much and enjoyed them twice as well.

This may very well be the nastiest hotel I've ever stayed at. In my youth I frequented Motel 6, Super 8, and Red Roof. This hotel is worse. Why? I'm going to start with the urine smell in my room. Beyond that the absurdity of there being NOT ONE SINGLE power outlet accessible in the room (other than one in the bathroom)

Front desk staff acted disinterested and put out by our presence. Wouldn't even stand up.

New television... that's about it. Cant really think of anything nice to say about this place. Will post photos.

I had a training a couple of blocks away and booked Clarion for convenience. Unfortunately, I didn't get much sleep while I was there. The door to my room scraped the floor and squeaked loudly, the bed was rather over hard, and the air conditioner didn't have a continuous ON feature with just a fan, so it woke me every time it cycled (loudly) on and off. What was most worrying, however, was that the back door to the stairwell does not properly close, therefore anyone could come in at any time. Hotels in San Jose are expensive, so $100/plus taxes is considered a bargain, so this is a technically bargain lodging. What surprised me, however, is that I have stayed in numerous Clarion hotels and the are generally quite a bit nicer and better maintained than this one - this Clarion is dated and a bit worn. On the plus side, it was easy to find, and there are restaurants nearby and getting back to the freeway is easy.

Stayed here for a couple of nights during my annual mini-vacation to the south bay area will stay here again next year if I do the same trip. I only payed $71 per night (before taxes) which was a great value. I liked the look of the hotel inside and out. Outside, nice buildings and grounds. Inside, great looking lobby area and hallways. My room was clean and undamaged and had a lot of amenities. It certainly looks like it should cost more, especially during the tourist season. Bed was comfortable. The continental breakfast was good--I have had better, but have had much worse. Geographically, it is easy to get to various places in San Jose from the hotel. It is in SE San Jose, so it took me awhile to get to most places I was interested in, but they are straight drives for the most part, and I will take a few minutes extra vs a confusing route. I could complain over a few things (that is why my rating is not 5 stars) but I won't because overall it was a very nice hotel and a good base for my travels to Santa Cruz and around San Jose.

Room Tip: Be advised there is no elevator for this two-story hotel and getting up and down the stairs is diffi...

Rooms are dated as is the whole hotel, the location was good for where I needed to be, I found it amazing that I had to wait for staff to fix their breakfast in the small breakfast area. This is ok for a cheap business trip and you are there for sleeping only.
