Since I got such a great last minute rate ($104) on a wknd, I feel compelled to give this hotel 5-stars. If I had paid more, I might be a little more critical as it certainly is not the nicest fairmont i've been to. But, at this price, it's well worth it. Yes, getting a bit run down (did not get the newer tower, no) but the location is excellent and the lobby is beautiful. Rooms are large and all the amenities, etc are great.

The pool did not seem heated while we were there, but loved the 4th floor location for it. Would have liked a hot tub, but that seems to be only in the day spa.

Fitness room was nice - average nice.

Don't pay for the parking - at $26 overnight, it's a total waste of money. On the weekends, we paid nothing at the underground garage and all we had to do was walk across the street to get to our garage. These seem to be everywhere downtown and the 'regular" rate is $2 overnight on the wknds! Free during the day.

Staff was nice, rooms were clean - minibar well stocked.

I stayed at the Fairmont a year ago with a youth group. We were in town for a youth convention - so there were A LOT of kids at this hotel.

The good: The hotel is just lovely. Our room was massive, the bathroom massive (I was in a room with 5 young ladies so this was greatly appreciated), there was a vanity area, good closet, and very large hallway. And all of the space was beautifully appointed. The beds were soft and the bedding was delicious and I couldn't have loved the space more. (Until the five young ladies made every corner of the room an out of control mess.) The hotel lobby and lounge is gorgeous and a lot of fun! The hotel is in a great location, easy walk to the convention center, easy walk to lots of fun places to eat and the train. It's across the street from a great park and fountain. It's just a very cool area.

The bad: Now these are just picky, but they still bothered me for the level of place we were staying in. Our rooms were not ready on time. After traveling a long distance and being extremely exhausted, it was an excruciating wait. Also, there were five people in our room. They knew this, they provided the air mattress and we paid for that extra person. But I had to call housekeeping every single day to have one or two more towels delivered. This is really a nuisance after about the third day. Our bathrobe disappeared after the second day never to be replaced. Our air conditioning didn't seem to work very well. (They did get an engineer up to our room ASAP and got it mostly working.) But the one that really got me is that we worked with the concierge to find a nice place to have dinner with these 12 kids. The concierge was very nice although she didn't seem to quite understand what we were going for. (She kept wanting to send us to chain restaurants when we were looking for something unique to San Jose.) We finally picked out a restaurant, she said she would call and make the reservation and call us if there were any problems. When we showed up at the establishment , they didn't have our reservation. They were a place that didn't accept reservations. Well, that was embarrasing and aggravating. I know we were a group with a bunch of kids, but we were paying customers and I would have expected to be treated with the same level of care as other customers. It may have just been that particular concierge. The others seemed more professional - she is just who happened to be on duty when we walked up. All in all, these are fairly minor.

We did love this hotel and the location. I would not only stay here again, but I would definitely look forward to staying in a Fairmont in other locations as well.

This was our first stay at the Fairmont Hotel.
We paid $130/night at a special rate (for the wedding party).
It is a very nice hotel. I didn't have a chance to check out the outdoor pool but was told it was very nice.
The lounge at the main lobby was a lot of fun. At night, there was live music and people were dancing as guests walk in and out of the hotel.

Tip!! Make sure you sign up for the President's Club. Ask at the front desk. I actually called the number and signed up right away. Once you have your President's Club number, the internet access is free.

Valet is the only option. I think the parking fee was around 20. Getting in and out was very easy. Never waited for more than 2 mins for our car. They even gave us free, cold bottle water in the morning.

I booked this hotel for a conference in San Jose since all the less expensive ones were already full. It was really nice - beautiful lobby, great room, wonderful toiletries in the bathroom. I was really happy to have stayed there. I was in the annex section away from the main building and had a look over the square.

The location of the hotel was excellent. There was a plethora of cheap restaurants around if you didn't want to eat in the hotel's restaurants. It was a short walk to the conference centre and was very well located from trips to malls (skip the Great Mall and go straight to Valley Fair).

One complaint would be that it was expensive and the internet was an additional charge of ~$14/day. The gym was small and hotel guests didn't have access to the lockers. This made it inconvenient to visit the pool since there was no where to change, and it was quite a walk from the annex - you'd be unlikely to do it in a robe.

  • Liked — The room was great
  • Disliked — Having to pay for internet considering the overnight rate I had to pay

Loved this place. I stayed on business (conference, stayed 5 nights). This was a great place. The staff was great, made me a member of the presidents club so I received free internet the entire week. The cleaning staff even went so far as to move my shoes to the closet and fold any clothes I did not hang up. I had chocolate covered strawberries left the first night. I was on the 20th floor on a corner and had a great view. I ate at the Fountain restaurant for breakfast, it was slow but good food. It is near a bunch of restaurants, 2 museums (art and tech), and a park out front. I never once heard any noise from any of my neighbors and the bed was sooo comfy. I had 4 pillows and used all of them at some point. I had a great experience and thought my stay was great. I recommend to everyone!
