“Historical hotel in San Jose”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

Very close to many hotel brand new luxury hotels in downtown San Jose, this hotel attracts because of its historical building. Rooms have also an historical atmosphere, even if the airco is quite noisy. Didn't taste the breakfast, but the italian restaurant looks good.

Staff was great from concierge, front desk, housekeeping and restaurant. Wifi was free and fast, bed comfortable. Small tv, lack of adequate power outlets were negatives which could be easily fixed by mgmt...would have been 5 stars if it weren't for lack of outlets.. Allin all, not bad.

The hotel is old. I had a make over but that must have been years ago. The value for what you get was so-so. The room had a stain in the floor. It has its own restaurant. The gym was small considering the size of the hotel with no windows to look out. Good downtown location. They have their own parking garage.

One of the better hotels in San Jose. It is old but well keep. The staff is great, if you need info in the area they will be happy to tell you. The price is not cheap but worth it. A great location.
When I need a room I always stay there.

I generally stay at the Sainte Claire when I'm in San Jose on business. It's a wonderful small historic property that is well run, conveniently located, and well priced. The rooms, albeit a little dated, are comfortable and well appointed. Since I don't really have time for the onsite amenities provided in many hotels, I have little with which to compare. I do however enjoy my leisurely breakfast (and excellent strong roast coffee) at the Il Fornaio Restaurant located on the lobby level of the hotel. I always recommending the hotel to my friends traveling to downtown San Jose who enjoy the fashionably quaint hotels.

Yes, this hotel may be a dated. However, that just adds to the charm and character that most guests may find appealing. Other hotels may be just as nice, newer or more contemporary, but lack the unique features that distinguishes the Sainte Claire from other chain hotels. The service was excellent, the room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel is also conveniently situated - just walking distance to nearby restaurants and attractions. I appreciated the complementary Wi-Fi as well and the in-room safe. Kudos to the staff of the Sainte Claire!

Hotel is old ...a historic one, I believe, and needs some refurbishing..hallway carpets for instance. TV reception also not great...picture a little fuzzy. Room, however, was nice size and had black-out curtains for good sleeping. Also very quiet. Italian restaurant downstairs has excellent food (filet was delicious) and great service, which was same at front desk and bell service. No other restaurant in hotel and the accompanying bar is quiet small.
