“Local Gem. Getting Better Each Visit.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2010

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the South Bay. Very easy to get a reservation via the internet and a confirmation surprisingly quick, even when they're closed.

The menu is varied enough that we've always been able to try something new and we've never been disappointed. I wish the Ahi was available more, when it is, its terrific. Great wine selection, small but varied selection of beer. A good cross selection of dinners for children as well. The desert menu is terrfic. Prices are very fair. Service is at "Dinning Pace" not "Lets Eat and Leave" speed and the staff has always very proffesional and accommodating.

The location, once you've been there is excellent. Lots of parking. Not the most attractive building in the world, that's why we refer to it as the "hidden" gem in the area.

“We went searching for the best and found Elements”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2009

We volunteered to host a 50th wedding anniversary celebration for my parents and at least a dozen close family members. So we spent several months looking for the very best restaurant in San Jose. We tried many places (more than once) and brought friends who we knew would give us their brutally honest opinions. Elements Restaurant in San Jose was the clear winner and we asked Tristan and the staff to make the arrangements. I could not have been more pleased with the result. It was an exceptional night that exceeded our expectations in every way. I believe the whole staff knew how important this night was and went out of their way to make it simply spectacular. It's a bit far from downtown San Jose, but well worth your trip. Enjoy!

“Simply unpretentious...just great food & service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2009

Every time we visit our friends in Almaden Valley, we'd dine at the other restaurant down the road. Unexpectedly, last week we happened to see Elements around the corner of Valiente. As other reviews had mentioned, the location was sort of hidden. After reading the menu, we thought to ourselves, Pourquoi Pas? If the food was not good, we could step to the Bar next door and call it a night.

Food: Our party of three had the Halibut (with saffron sauce), Filet Mignon (with black truffle sauce), Tea-smoked Duck (with cranberry sauce), Crab Napoleon and Papaya salad. Our biggest surprise was the quality of all the dishes, compared to the prices and service, Elements deserved an extra star for bringing great quality foods at the most reasonable prices. I was personally pleased to see none of the dishes on the menu with a repeated sauce, everything appeared to be unique and well-thought. The papaya salad, in my opinion, was simply outstanding. I'd had papaya salad many times at other restaurants (mostly Thai), but Elements' version of this salad brought it to a new level, I didn't care too much for the fried prawns, the papaya was just great without them.

Service: for the most part, service was good, yet it needed some refinement. Sometimes, service appeared to be "overattentive", I did not like my plate taken away too quickly, nor my water refilled when it was only 1/4 empty.

Ambiance: The restaurant's decor was tastefully done, quite simple, nothing over-the-top, nor too fancy. Although I would categorize Elements as Fine-dinning restaurant, but the prices and friendly service reflects more of a French Bistro.

We did not order dessert that night, perhaps on the next visit we will. The desserts on the next table looked amazing though.

Overall, our risk was paid off, Elements happened to be quite a find. If we lived close by, we would eat here more often. My fiancée was talking about having our rehearsal dinner at Elements, there is definitely a possibility.

“I don't get it.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2009

I don't get it were most of the reviewers are talking about. This restaurant is quite away from San Jose. The atmosphere is terrible, like sitting in a shoolrestaurant. Not warm or cosy at all. Food is below average, service is friendly. But to be honnest, I expect far more.

“A hidden Jewel in Almaden Valley”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2009

This restaurant offers great value for your money. The food is very good, fairly priced, and service is great.
Food: a mix of Vietnamese (appetizers) and French (entrees). The night we were there, the tea duck was amazing, but we also liked the Scallops & Prawns, and Herb crusted Salmon. Make sure you leave room for dessert, our party loved the cake with Marzipan icing, it was simply divine.
Service: for the most parts, service was great. Our water glasses were never empty. Service could have improved a bit because we had to wait a while for our bill, even when we left our card to pay in the portfolio, it seemed to take forever. Perhaps it was a minor blip, otherwise the dinner was really good.
Ambience: Soft lighting with easy listening music. The restaurant looked cute inside, simple but cute. The paintings with primary colors were very beautiful, it was like walking into an Art Gallery. Atmosphere was airy and relaxing, definitely not pretencious or up-tight.
Noise level: quiet with well-spaced tables.
Prices: not expensive, food came in good portion & tasty.

Pros: A very good restaurant, it has potential to be a great one.
Cons: Location is hidden in a strip-mall, not much to look from the outside, so go inside. Simply put, this is a jewel in Almaden Valley.
