I used the “name your own price” option with priceline.com to book a four-star property in San Jose CA for my husband and his friend to stay. Although priceline states that they don’t guarantee room requests, I had never had a problem before securing double or queen beds. I never choose the boutique hotel option at priceline when I need double beds because I know that those types of hotels are not likely to have available double bed rooms. After naming my own price, I was notified that my husband would be staying at the “Hotel Montgomery.” I immediately called the property to request double beds and was informed that the property only has three rooms that have double beds. In addition, they hold those double-bed rooms for people who have large gatherings at the hotel. If one is fortuitous to have one of those rooms available on the day of your arrival, you will be charged an additional $30.00. Hotel Montgomery is considered a boutique hotel. That was not mentioned on the priceline website. I called priceline “customer service” three times and felt like I was in a “Capital One” commercial where they actually enjoy telling the customer “no.” I finally found a super secret 800 phone number for a women named Barbara Ayers who works in “customer service” in priceline’s executive offices who also enjoyed telling me “no.” The super secret priceline 800 “customer service” number is 800/945-4602
The bottom line is this: When planning a visit to San Jose, do not book on priceline with the name your own price option if you need double beds! Fortunately, Hotel Montgomery manger, Greg Mauldin allowed me to reserve one of those three rooms with double beds for $30.00 a night extra.
