“Bad even for layover”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2014

I stay in similar airport hotel quite often, but this is just not a very pleasant place. Waited half an hour for pickup, room doesn't feel clean, bed linen is yellowish, staff doesn't make themselves useful other than checkin and out, try another one next time if I have to stop overnight in SJ. Did I mention the crack/homeless environment around here? Yea.

Spent two night here utilizing the Park & Fly package. After the first night we noticed the bathtub was slow to drain while showering. This was mentioned to the manager at front desk. He apologized, said it would be looked into, and even gave me a small box of chocolates. When we returned from our shopping trip, and dinner the shower problem had been corrected. It's true this is an older property, but it's clean, delivery and pick up to and from airport (hotel paid taxi) was prompt, and the caring staff made it all worth the visit. Courtesy breakfast was hot, with good choices to start the morning. If you want more, a Denny's is next door.

Room Tip: Second floor room, will place you on same level as breakfast lounge.

Nothing outstanding here. From the less than enthusiastic check-in and check-out to the view of the crack house motel behind us, this is only a mediocre place to stay while waiting for a flight from SJC. Room was O.K. and the breakfast was decent. Didn't expect too much for the price anyway. My biggest complaint was that a $118 charge from the motel against my credit card mysteriously showed up one day after we checked out. After two calls we were finally connected to the manager who could only say that the charge was a mistake and that she would promptly credit our card. Over one week later nothing has been done. This time, after contacting the G.M., Veejay, he tells us that he will take care of it. We'll see..... I sure hate dealing with these problems while we are traveling.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room (quieter) and make sure you get a receipt when you check out.

We stayed here the night before leaving for Maui and left our car for eight days. The Park 'n Fly package, which you can only book directly from the hotel's website, was the cheapest one I could find for SJC that would work for 2 adults and 2 big kids. The hotel room itself was very nice, and the rollaway I requested was in the room when we arrived, which was very convenient. The front desk clerk (who was the same person when we arrived as when we checked out early that morning) was very friendly and helpful, but she forgot to ask for our car information, which prompted us to call once we arrived in Maui to make sure they knew our car was there and it was not going to be towed away. We really liked the parking garage as opposed to a lot, and we felt that our car was safer here. And it was safe, for it was there waiting for us when we returned, exhausted, late at night a week later. The shuttle service consisted of cab rides both ways, for they did not have a shuttle that was available for the times we needed the ride to or from the airport. There was some confusion about the location for our pick up from SJC late Wednesday night, but the clerk had given the cab driver my cell number and we were able to find him eventually. Not smooth, but it worked.

We left too early for breakfast, so the front desk clerk gave us each a paper bag breakfast that consisted of a cereal bar, a mini bottle of water, and an inedible piece of fruit. It was a nice gesture, however.

While the interior of the hotel is nice, the walls are thin and we could hear a lot of other guests during the night, just as I am sure they heard us get up at 5AM to get to the airport. The location of the hotel is another reason for the average rating. Yes, it is an urban area, and yes, this is not an upscale property, but seeing prostitutes and obviously strung-out vagrants on the streets near the hotel made me a bit squeamish about my choice. Overall, I wish I'd spent the extra money for the top-rated La Quinta. I hope this helps other travelers!

In town over a long weekend for business. Had my own vehicle, so no experience with the shuttle service. Needed something within a few minute drive from SAP Center that was clean and comfortable, at a decent price (under $100 a night). This fit the bill beautifully. Parking is ground level in garage underneath hotel, which kept us protected from the windy, rainy days we encountered. Front desk staff very friendly. We were on the 3rd floor, facing the street. I was concerned we would have traffic or trolley noise, but we did not. The non-smoking room was nice and roomy with 2 Queen beds, a kitchenette area with a small fridge, small microwave, coffeemaker with coffee, a small sink and cupboard space. No plates, cups, eating utensils are provided, but this is not an extended stay hotel where you would have a stove top and those things included. We used the fridge to cool our bottled water. This mini suite had a nice desk area along with sofa and coffee table, great for doing a little work on your computer and/or keeping your work items separate from your living space. Beds were very comfy. Bathroom has plenty of space for your toiletries, and I really appreciated the good lighting and magnifying mirror. Plenty of hot water with good water pressure. The closet was a bit shallow and small, but if you push the hangars in like we did, you should be able to close the mirrored bi-fold doors. An iron and ironing board are also provided. Our room was very clean and housekeeping did a great job. We took full advantage of the real breakfast provided on the 2nd floor in the breakfast room. Real compared to the regular continental breakfasts of dried up pastries, instant oatmeal, and a banana or orange I am used to at many places of this level. This place provided scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns, pastries, different breads, cereals, regular and decaf coffee, tea, juices, fruit, etc., all served promptly at 6:30 am every morning – and done so with a smile. Our room was exceptionally quiet, making for good nights' rest, very much appreciated after long days attending to business. I will definitely stay here again when back in San Jose. Good job, Comfort Suites! The travelers’ photos from October 2013 are very accurate, so I did not include any of my own.

Room Tip: Third floor, Room 321 was exceptionally quiet.

The reviews here led me to expect better than my actual experience. It was OK, and I'd stay again in a pinch, but I would try to find something else first.

The good parts very friendly and helpful service, and most of the hotel in very good shape, seeming pretty new. And the location is great – very close to the airport, very close to a light rail stop, and reasonably close to downtown, etc.

On the other hand, the in-room coffee was perhaps the worst I have ever tasted, and the room looked as if the edges and corners of the rug had never really been vacuumed well.

I was pleased to read that they offered breakfast to go if you were leaving before breakfast was served, but since I was also leaving before I was fully awake, I forgot to ask for it, and wasn't offered.

I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised at the service and comfort of this place. it was close to the airport, had a quick and courteous airport shuttle service, and was right next door to Denny's! LOL Hey, I arrived hungry, so that was a godsend.

Oh, and the comp breakfast the next morning was yummy! All the staff were nice and friendly, and the rooms are comfy.

Room Tip: Next to elevator or main stairwell. That'll put you closer to breakfast in the morning and the...
