My wife and I recently visited San Clemente as part of a weekend trip to Irvine. While in San Clemente we stopped at Antoine’s for breakfast on 8/23/13. My wife read some reviews which were favorable so we gave it a try. We were seated promptly upon our arrival and provided with menus. After that things went downhill. 1) It took more than 15 minutes before the waitress (server ID 9 according to our receipt) came over to our table to get our drink order and bring water. During that same period of time I observed other parties coming into the restaurant and having the waitress meet them at the table to get instant service. Strike one. 2) After we got our meal (food was nothing special) the waitress (ID 9) was fairly inattentive. She only made 1 visit to our table to check on food or drink refills. Strike 2. 3) By the time we finished we were in no mood for further delays and were ready to leave. Unfortunately the inattentiveness of the waitress meant that we had to wait for our bill which is a major pet peeve of mine. Once we got the bill and went to the counter to pay we had to stand there and wait. There were 2 to 3 people behind the counter that could have rang up the bill but somehow we became invisible to all of them. The waitress (ID 9), one of the people behind the counter decided that was the time for her to pose for pictures with a baby that someone brought in. Strike 3. Needless to say we saved money on the tip. Note to ID 9. Tips are not an entitlement, they are to be earned. I don’t know if San Clemente is a community that is tolerant of cultural diversity but I’ve concluded that Antoine’s belongs in San Klanmente.
