“Old Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

Spent two nights here. Old hotel, young lady working at the desk. She was very helpful and delightful and went out of her way to help me figure out the tv. The rest of the stay was "interesting." The office is definitely NOT handicapped accessible, with very steep steps. Our room had a dirty cup on the table and no replacement in the room. The carpeted floors had numerous stains (pets are allowed), and the old room was musty smelling. The people in the also non-smoking room next to us were smoking. This smoke also went upstairs into the room in which my daughter was staying. When my niece and her husband got into their room after midnight, the cleaning supplies were in there (including the vacuum), and the beds were not made, but the bedding was in there. Everything was a bit musty smelling, but, having stayed there before, I knew what I was getting and slept pretty well in spite of it all, and when we return to San Andreas, we will probably stay there again. It is conveniently located, and we walked to the local Chinese restaurant and had a delicious meal along with the peaceful walk. Cell phones are iffy and there is no wi-fi in the rooms, either, if that is a necessity for anyone.

Room Tip: Ask for room on the pool side--upstairs seem to have more renovations completed.

Tried to stay there Christmas Eve and Christmas night (2 nights, paid) The whole bottom floor of the hotel had been flooded previously, so there was no chance of having any car side accessible rooms. Got in the room, it smelled and was about 40 degrees. Took an hour to get it warm enough to get out of your clothes to get into your jammies. Went to relatives house the next day for Christmas. Got back to the motel, in driving, freezing rain. Our electronic room key would NOT open our room. There was no one around to get help. The sign on the door said to call a special number, and there was no answer. Told us to go to some bar if we needed help, the entire town was dark as dirt. All my medications, clothes, computer, everything was locked in that room and I was not. Ended up going back to the relatives and sleeping on the sofa and floor until we could get an answer the next morning at the hotel. The man behind the desk was kind enough to say that he WOULD NOT CHARGE us for the previous night that we didn't stay.... Stay FAR FAR away.

There were piles of dead food, including corn chips behind the nightstand, and a slime in the bathtub.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

Old hotel, good enough for a night's sleep and shower.

This ain't the Ritz but in fairness, the people are much nicer, the beds just as comfortable and the price way more reasonable. Certainly the "renovated" rooms are a little older now and a few tweaks need to be done, like caulking around the bathroom. But hey, the pool is always sparking and there is always a positive response to a question or complaint. For me, nothing is more important then c-l-e-a-n, and all other facets of a hotel/motel fall down the list from there. Black Bart is extremely convenient and just about the only game in town. They need to continue renovating and more business will come. We were up for the long holiday weekend and visited with many who now know about Black Bart. And there is a great little old western shopping street right behind the hotel. Cellphones do not work in this part of the world so make sure you've got landline numbers to your destination.

Got a good nights sleep and an extra towel from the friendly staff. Quiet on the nights we stayed. Rooms on the pool side were remodeled and comfortable. Few TV channels but not an issue as we weren't in the room much.

Room Tip: Get a room on the pool side of the hotel.

My boyfriend and I stayed one night at the Black Bart Inn so we could attend a concert in nearby Murphys. I was disappointed that the pool was closed as I intentionally got there early so I could get some pool time. When we got home from the outdoor concert we wanted to take showers before going to bed. We couldn't figure out how to turn the shower on. We are both intelligent people, but some rocket scientist designed that apparatus and even the next morning we couldn't make it work. A call to the office at 7:30 am went unanswered, so I ended up taking a bath (ugh!) and my boyfriend barely managed to kneel in the tub and bathe. My honey is 6'9" and the queen sized bed was a little awkward for him, but not too bad, and was clean and comfortable. The TV only had about 6 or 7 channels, and no cable TV at all. The Inn is very reasonably priced and if you are looking for no frills and a quiet location you may want to consider the Black Bart Inn, but ask how to operate the shower when you check in.

  • Liked — the price
  • Disliked — shower didn't work, pool was closed
