“Pleasantly Surprised!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

We didn't know what to expect when we checked in for a two night stay but were very pleasantly surprised. The room was clean and fairly spacious. While it was on the freeway side of the building, the noise wasn't too bad and the way the building is shaped on the sides allowed for a small living room separate from the bedroom.

Our bed was very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Price was fair. Breakfast was very basic but the waffles were tasty. Internet was a little spotty but adequate for what we needed.

We would come back no problem.

Our favorite motel in Salinas was booked so we turned to a usually reliable chain, Best Western. The room was ok but overpriced. The stale French fry that was on the rug when we checked into our room was still there after a two night stay. (I didn't discard it just to see if the maid would finally remove it.) This motel has the ambiance of a bargain hotel with a mid-level price. The "breakfast room" had four tables for a three stories worth of rooms. I guess they hoped you would grab a quick cup of coffee and go somewhere else to eat. Margie's Diner is next door if you wish to pay for a decent, diner breakfast. There were other small ways that the hotel tried to be frugal such as not replacing a sample size lotion when one was used or not providing tea bags for the in-room service. Unfortunately these economies seemed cheap and unpleasant and did not equate to good service. My husband and I will not stay here again.

I believe the experience may depend on the cost of the room. For $90 it was okay but would not be happy paying more. Our room looked as if they provided only what was absolutely necessary.
One small soap to use between the sink (outside the bathroom) and the shower. No bath mat.
No information about the area or the hotel itself. The reception was not particularly welcoming.
The breakfast was enough to get us started on the day and the internet worked well.

I had a terrible time here. The price was way to high, for something so small. The internet did not work. The room smelled and was dirty and the bed was so bad neither me nor my husband could sleep. I would rather sleep in my car then stay here again.

Very good basic hotel easily accessible from 101 and the Monterey peninsula. Clean with outdoor pool and spa. Inexpensive - moderating options within walking distance. Steinbeck Museum, Center and House within 5 min. driving distance. Rene and the Patels were efficient, friendly, accommodating and welcoming.

Room Tip: Rooms on the east side are quieter. West side rooms are next to freeway.

There are two BW hotels next door to each other. One is older and this one seems almost new to me. This one is basic with double rooms with one king or two queens. We would come to this hotel again for a road trip overnighter. The room was totally clean and operating and well maintained. The staff was friendly and very helpful to us with several details. Great internet speed on the wired eithernet connection. I didn't use the wireless connection. Breakfast in the morning was of good quality.......coffee was great. We're learly of highway overnight places and we were relieved to have had a very good experience with this one. Only gripe was the two chairs in the room were straight chairs with little padding. We like to relax and read and these are not that comfortable for more than an hour. Most rooms have easy chairs, usually only one which really irritates us and we try to avoid such rooms. At least this room had two of the chairs. Good microwave and fridge. Excellent bed!
