“a high value place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

My wife and I were staying in Salinas for only one night and we just wanted a clean, inexpensive place to stay. The Laurel Inn Motel exceeded our expectations. Clean, large room? check..
Quiet? check... Breakfast included? check... Internet connection? check (5-bars!)... Convenient access to Highway 101? check... Convenient and secure parking? check... Best of all was the price. Less than $66/night for AAA-rate for King bed. Excellent value for travelers. "Traveling the world one meal at a time..."

Salinas is a half way point for us when traveling to Northern Cal. The town is growing, with a lot of newer places to stay and eat. There is a new BJ's and Chipotle by the mall. There is a Black Bear Diner right in the motel parking lot. The Laurel Inn has been a stopping place for me for many years. We found the staff is very friendly. We stayed in room 170, which is in the back area of the motel. It's very quiet back there and the lot is well lit. There is a breeze way to the front where the restaurant and breakfast area are. The decor is a bit tired, but the room was clean. They really do need new (or better) mattresses. Our bed was extremely hard! Their rates are very reasonable. If you're looking for a place to rest while on the road, this is a good, clean, inexpensive choice.

Room Tip: The rooms in the back area are very quiet.

...it is such a great bargain, I had to share it with you. This was the cleanest room I have stayed in in many years. It may have recently been renovated. The location is very convenient. The price is moderate. It is located next to a kid friendly restaurant. The beds and the pillows could use upgrading, but they are much better than comparable hotels. The competition in this area is mostly large chains. The lower priced ones are barely safe. The higher priced ones are expensive for what you receive. The Laurel Inn is perfect and reasonable.

Room Tip: Choose an upstairs room away from the freeway.

I was quite impressed with the Laurel Inn Motel & Conference Center. It's location is convenient right off Highway 101, shares parking with Black Bear Diner, and a huge selection of shopping and dining is just over the freeway overpass. The hotel desk clerks were professional and welcoming and answered questions without hesitation. The double queen room was quite spacious and very clean. For two women, it was great to have power outlets on both sides of the vanity for all our hair gadgets and a mini fridge to keep bottled water and leftovers chilled. It felt safe and quiet. We were pleased to see many travelling families in the breakfast room, which was kept clean and well stocked by a warm and friendly attendant. He greeted everyone and saw to it that food items were quickly replaced, trash removed, and tables/counters wiped down. Quite efficient! There was ample and convenient parking. The Black Bear Diner provided quick and easy dining access within steps of our room and the Laurel had 10% discount cards in the lobby which came in handy for our 3 visits. My only complaint would be the shower curtains which didn't seal off very well. I ended up with a couple of floods and had to sop up water. Thankfully, they supply plenty of towels. The beds were firm, but comfortable, and there was plenty of drawers and space for our clothing & bags. There is also a convenience store next door if you need something in a pinch. I will definitely return to the Laurel.

Room Tip: Our room was near the pool. Although facing the freeway, no traffic noise was detected. Downstairs...

We spent 3 nights here while attending a wedding. Room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. Breakfast was very good and nicely presented in a large, well-maintained room. Front desk let us check out late on the 3rd day.

We just spent a week here, for two people in one motel room that is a long time. We had two queen beds. The room was large and very well maintained, the service was great and the beds were very good. There was enough space for all our stuff and it has worked out very well. It is quiet at night even though it is near the freeway. They provide a cold cereal/toast/rolls/yogurt type breakfast. It was a nice drive quick drive to Pebble Beach, Carmel, Pacific Grove and Monterey's Old Fisherman's Wharf. Thanks to all the positive reviews on Trip Advisor we had a great week at a great price!

We had a king room on the main floor. It was spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable. A free continental breakfast was included. The receptionist was polite. I didd have some trouble using the cocmputer in the lobby. The clerk had to help. Then it was hard to see because the sun was glaring through the window and there was no blind. Took me threee times as long to do what I needed to do.
I chose this motel over others because I had read the tripadvisor reviews. I do have to say it was a bit of a 'let-down'. The cost was less than the motel I originally booked and that made it worthwhile.

Room Tip: get room on lower floor
