“Perfect place to pick up a picnic lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2010

The staff was very helpful and even made us a custom cheese and meat tray that was fantastic. We also ordered a combo meal from the back of the store that was delicious. There is no seating inside and it was raining outside so we took the food with us to a local park in the mountains which was perfect. The food was very good and reasonably priced. Highly recommended to pick up lunch in between wineries.

“Without a doubt way overpriced but....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2009

when it comes to "deli", they have it all. Probably the best wine and liquor selection you'll find anywhere. Deli meats are brands you can find anywhere. The pastry/dessert selection is fine. If you want quality and basically have money to burn, then this is the place. If you want to save your money, go to the local Safeway in St. Helena. They probably have what you want with a full deli and bakery. Dean and Deluca probably could only exist in this location due to the tourists and rich folks in the area but having to pay double or triple for similar is not foy everyone.

“Overpriced for what you get.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2009

First of all it say "Market Cafe" basically saying they have places to sit. NOT! They have this patio area outside their side door with not even a stool. This would of been a perfect place for cafe seats and umbrellas.

Second is the food is overpriced compared with other Dean & Deluca's I have been too. Basically you are paying for their real estate.

Word of advice.... pack your own lunch.

“Dean & Deluca, not such a great place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2008

I work and in the valley, so Dean & Deluca is a stop- in- place for lots of valley employees and I must say my experiences in the St. Helena shop has not been to great.

While it is no secret that the store charges top dollar for all their food items, you generally don't mind if the quality and service that you receive is reflected in your experience.

I'll cut to the chase, it amazes my how bad the customer service is. It is like they are doing you a favor by waiting on you. Say you are going to pick up sandwiches, coffee and a few hot items from the "Perpared Food Section" (they don't use the word deli) be prepared to be there for along while. The flow set up in the store is crazy, you are lucky to get recognized, and if you need more than one type of item you are shuffled off to another line to wait. Once you get what you need, you proceed to the cash register and then plan to wait again. The store can be fully staffed with cheese mongers, coffee preparers and deli staff, but the dam register only has one cashier (mind you they have 2 registers). This all happens around the 12:30 lunch hour.

I have verbalized my complaints a few times and others that I work with have also shared their comments. The complaints fall on deaf ears.

Do yourself a favor, pass up Dean & Deluca and drive on up to Sunshine Market; there things cost a little too, but no where near what the big D&D charges. There you can get better service, better prepared foods and a lot of those fancy foo-foo items to boot.

As a final note: One of our vineyard workers asked for me to pick them up a Coke to drink during a recent heat wave. (Coke seems to be the choice of many of the vineyard workers where I work). I was told by the soda attendant that they were a Pepsi product store only. Give me a break!

“My favorite store--a local's review”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2007

I live in Sonoma, and this store is my absolute favorite place to take myself and visitors alike!

First, the drive up to the store in St Helena is spectacular in itself. In the store, the cheese selection is awesome--and the customer service behind the counter even better! The will assist you with any questions and tastings, and you will leave learning and experiencing so much.

The breads are second to none in the area as well. All one needs is to buy bottle of wine, and along with the cheese and breads, you are in heaven!
