We just returned from our weekend at Le Rivage and loved it! The hotel is beautiful and it's location on the Sacrameto River makes it a very peaceful place to relax and unwind. Staff was SO friendly - continually greeting us with a wave, a "hi", or a smile whenever we saw them throughout our stay. Our room was beautiful - we had a balcony on the South end of the hotel, with a fantastic view of the river. Food at Scott's Seafood was fantastic.
Our only minor complaints (suggestions really) is that they need to expand the room service menu - I have never seen with so few choices. Portions from room service were inconsistent. I had a large piece of salmon one night while my husbands chicken was ridiculously small. The plate was filled out with enough rice to feed 3 people. It was all delicious, but odd portions, especially for the price. Breakfast - also very good was strangely portioned, as well. One day hubby had eggs with 3 fat sausages, but next day eggs with ham consisted of one extremely thin slice of ham - we're talking sandwich thin! Other than that, food was all high quality and very good.
Our only other issue was with our housekeeper. The room was very clean, but she was not good about restocking tissues, soap, etc - we had to track her down to get shower gel for the next day because she did not restock anything including the complimentary water that was supposed to come each day.
Again, these were very small things compared to how much we loved the place and we will definitely be back. Oh yeah, the clawfoot tub was awesome!

I just happened to stumble across this hotel and coundn't have been happier! I had no reservations but they had room available. The bell hop (bell boy,man.. not really sure of his title) Eric was very nice and escorted me to my room which was on the freeway side. As we entered the room it wasn't clean and appeared as if someone had been sleeping in the bed. He got ahold of the front desk who told him which room to put me in.. and it was a riverside room!
The room is very nice and comfortable. The balcony with two chairs overlooking the river is a great place just to sit and relax. The bathroom is amazing and has all the tolitries you will need. The clawfoot tub with seperate shower is a nice touch.
Spent time at the pool and in the fitness center. The pool was a bit chilly but felt nice after laying in the hot sun. They had padded sun loungers and towels already outside waiting for you. The fitness center is small (2 treadmills, 1 elipitcal, 1 bike and a few free weights) but is clean and has a TV, towels and water provided.
Enjoyed the spa and got one hour massage from Linda. She was great! The spa is very relaxing, I highly recommend it.
As others have said, the only dining option is Scotts Seafood. Ate dinner and lunch there, enjoyed both. After dinner went and sat next to the firepit byt the river. Very nice!
To sum it up, this place was beautiful with a great view and EXCELLENT service. You could not ask to stay at a better hotel.

I stayed at this hotel for just one night - Friday Apr 24th, 2009. My husband booked a river view room and arranged with hotel staff for flowers and choc dipped strawberries to be in room upon check-in. Both were there waiting and were perfect. We had never been to this hotel before or Scotts Seafood adjacent and found both to be excellent. We usually staay in 3 or 4 star hotels and this hotel meets and exceeds what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. I read some of the other reviews and disagreed with comments, especially the comment about the smell of the river. There is no smell. Hotel is many feet above river and water is free flowing and fresh water. We left our sliding glass door open all night and never smelled anything and it was super quiet.
The bed is probably the most comfortable bed we've slept in and we are picky. The room was well lit and bathroom was amazing. Very beautiful and huge. All marble and the amenities of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, shower gel were top of the line.
We would highly recommend this hotel for business or pleasure.

Forget staying here -- the low tide makes the river smell like rotten eggs. If you don't want a river view, you can always look at the freeway on the other side!

I wouldn't spend this amount of money again!

Management response from TheLeRIvageHotel, Manager
(Management representative)

The Le Rivage Hotel is one of the only AAA Four-Diamond properties in Sacramento. It meets the highest levels of luxury and standards. The statements in the review make no sense, a low tide would be found at the ocean. We are located on one of the most beautiful stretches of the fresh water and free flowing Sacramento River. We encourage all visitors to Sacramento to come stay and realize why we are the best hotel in the state capitol.

We landed at Le Rivage in March 2009 when on a California road trip heading south on I-5. The location is convenient to I-5, yet removed enough to avoid the interstate ambiance experience. I found a distinct contrast in feel between the frenetic freeway, just minutes away, and the quiet neighborhood on the banks of the slow-moving Sacramento River where the hotel is situated.

The photos on the hotel website are an accurate representation of the property; if anything, the property is better in real life than their website photos.

The staff at Le Rivage was truly outstanding. The personnel managed to work the fine line between being helpful and friendly without being intrusive and fawning. They responded within minutes to a minor thermostat issue in our room, and were extremely helpful with answering any questions we had.

The room and bathroom were immaculate and evoked total indulgence. The beds were comfortable beyond description, and the linens were top quality. We had a premium walkout balcony room overlooking the river, and highly recommend it for the view and extra outdoor space. All the amenities one would expect in a five star hotel were provided.

Adjacent to the hotel is a peaceful paved walking/biking trail that follows alongside the river. After being cooped up for hours in a car, we truly enjoyed having an outdoor exercise option. We rented the hotel bicycles, which were in excellent condition, and the concierge provided us with information about the trail.

Very minor drawbacks:

1. Unless you want to drive around a bit, the dining options in the area are limited to the hotel restaurant, Scotts, which fortunately was very good. We found no dash-and-go option for breakfast. Unless you BYOB (bring your own bagels)or have room service, know that you might need to spend some time and money for breakfast at Scotts.

2. While the room had abundant natural light by day, the nighttime lighting in the room was a bit dim for older eyes. Nice for romance, but makes reading boring work materials more challenging.

3. If you elect not to use the hotel valet parking, the self-park lot might be a bit of a walk for some folks.
