“Best Service in SPG System!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW via mobile

I am a frequent traveler and have a Platinum status with Starwood Properties (SPG). I have stayed at some of the top SPG luxury collection properties in the US (Equinox in Vermont, Ballentyne in NC, St Regis in DC, etc) and this Westin property had service from all areas that was as good or better then all of those properties.

The staff at the front desk, bellman, restaurant, security, everyone went above and beyond to make my family stay better and constantly surprised us with superior service. Kristina at the front desk and Jacorey were particularly helpful on multiple occasions.

I never thought a Westin in Sacramento could be a destination resort but this one definitely is and we will be returning often.

This Westin is a little out of the way, while its river location is pretty on one side of the hotel if you are on the other side your view is of a highway and there is a lot of road noise at night. Also the parking lot is a weird long walk from the hotel, they do have a golf cart to pick you up but only if you can catch it at the right time. Overall a good hotel, but I always expect a little more when I pay for a Westin experience.

We are staunch Westin fans and Starwood Preferred Guest members and have never met a Westin property we didn't like! We have stayed here and arranged for my in-laws to stay here during a holiday visit. We loved the views and the customer service. The gentleman who handled the check in was fabulous. I wish we could remember his name in fact so we could commend him to his supervisor! Nice rooms, lovely beds and an absolutely breathtaking river location. We always enjoy our Westin stays and were happy to get our in-laws in as well. I highly recommend Westin properties. They are all unique with their own personalities and well worth exploring in any location!

This particular location has a Scott's Seafood restaurant and bar on the premises with gorgeous outdoor patio seating alongside the river too.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the river offer the most scenic views.

I don't now Sacramento and choose here using my SPG points, Area is quite, in residential area with a lake marina in back wih lots of parked boats. A jogging/running path alongside as well. Think, not sure,...didn't get a chance to use...the hotel offers bikes to use.

The hotel is just 3 stories and longer. Parking space is one row going away from the hotel, So you can walk a fair distance.

I asked and was confirmed for an upgrade but well not what what was different from the normal rooms. And then what the regular rooms are missing! Room had a iPod clock, Tea-coffee making facilities, safe and fridge (empty). Nice separate bath tub, and a shower.

Pool was freezing! Imagine NO heat on at all or barely, why other saying u do. I asked the night before if they can turn on the heat....front desk said they can't control it!! After pushing her saying SOMEONE must be able to control it, she said the engineer who comes in at 7am. I asked that a note be left for him to turn on the heat then. Unfortunately when I went to the pool at 11am still bone chilling cold. Shame can't enjoy it. Area is nice, towels provided, but the pool is a waste.

Fitness area a "studio". Very small, mostly treadmills, hand weights and yoga balls. Disappointing

A seafood restaurant on site, nothing else. And being in a quit residential area, if u want something else to eat, you will have to drive.

Average rating as it was fine, what should be expected at least of a Westin but did not exceed in any area

I try and stay with the SPG family whenever possible, because most of their hotels are above par. I selected the Westin Sacramento for its convenience. It was less than 5 minutes from where I needed to be in the "Pocket". There are no extras or little frills that you may have come to enjoy from other SPG hotels and resorts. This is basic, but the room was clean and the bed was comfortable, nothing to write home about. The staff was friendly and helpful. If you are not familiar with the area utilize their concierge service, they gave us some excellent suggestions and made our arrangements. There is a lovely view of the water, some nice walking trails and a Scotts Seafood Restaurant onsite. There is also a "Spa" but I can't comment because I didn't use it. I would actually rate this a 3.5, it's everything you need, just nothing extra. And "yes" based on it's location I would go back again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the river

Stayed there about a week ago for work. This is one of those hotels where the lobby smells like a spa and it just provides a relaxing atmosphere. The staff members were all nice, including the valet guy at the front.

Room: clean, very comfy bed, complimentary water, awesome bath tub, +fridge, no microwave, quite (my roommate was my co-worker and she had her TV on - I didn't hear it at all)

Amenities: I didn't use the exercise room - it is not huge but looks sufficient, outdoor pool/jacuzzi, the hotel is right by a very nice trail against a river that goes all the way to old Sacramento. I walked near sunset and felt pretty safe as there were other people jogging or biking there. There is some nice outdoor area where you can sit and relax.

Parking: valet and self parking both available.

Ideas for improvement: water/coffee in the lobby area?

Others: The seafood restaurant onsite seems to have a nice selection of dishes. I only looked at the menu. It seems like if you don't have a car, the restaurant might be your only option for food.

Overall, nice stay.

Nice location, staff very friendly but needs help. Fireplace in lobby not turned on even though cold day, no coffee available in lobby, horrible odor in lobby and all interior of hotel from over spraying fe breeze, no big water container in lobby with cucumbers ears or lemon slices, no candles in lobby that were turned on...just a very cold chain hotel with zero warmth..the worst thing though was that in our room there was a huge stain on the carpet and another big stain on the ottoman...that is just gross although in fairness the rest of the room seemed clean
