Nice location, staff very friendly but needs help. Fireplace in lobby not turned on even though cold day, no coffee available in lobby, horrible odor in lobby and all interior of hotel from over spraying fe breeze, no big water container in lobby with cucumbers ears or lemon slices, no candles in lobby that were turned on...just a very cold chain hotel with zero warmth..the worst thing though was that in our room there was a huge stain on the carpet and another big stain on the ottoman...that is just gross although in fairness the rest of the room seemed clean

I first stayed at this hotel when it was The Rivage. Both then and now, I was traveling alone and had limited needs, so it was easy for the hotel to meet or exceed them. High quality in every aspect, and friendly service. If you want "downtown" Sacramento, this isn't it. Not walking distance to anything. There's a good restaurant, Scott's Seafood, which is a slightly upscale chain. Good food, friendly service, entrees in the $16-$30 range.

Spacious rooms, good location by the river. Parking lot too far from rooms.

Limited food options nearby. Didn't have a chance to try Scott's or in room dining.

Front desk staff not particularly helpful.

The good: the staff goes out of their way to be helpful and friendly. Chris and Christina at the front desk were amazing. This isn't your typical Westin- the bathrooms are really special with a claw footed tub, spacious vanity and a dimmer for the lights. Perfect for a relaxing soak. The hotel is undergoing a renovation right now to replace the carpeting and decor in the rooms. It's going to be great.
The bad: Did I mention that the hotel is undergoing a renovation right now to replace the carpeting and decor in the rooms? It's going to be great, but in the meantime the carpet in our room had a faint mildew smell, there was construction during the day, and many rooms were unavailable due to the renovation. Also the AC system is unusually loud, and the location is a little bit odd especially if you have business downtown which is 5 miles away. All that said, I would stay here again for the great service and the newly renovated rooms (when they are complete).

Dear RyanL99,

Thank you for recognizing Chris and Kristina for providing excellent service. We are always pleased to see when our service exceeds the expectations of our guests.

We are in the process of updating our guest rooms as part of our ongoing effort to provide our guests with a vibrant and comfortable setting. We are excited about the new look of our rooms and hope you have a chance to return soon and see the results. In the meantime, every effort will be made to ensure the process has as little impact on our guests as possible. Thanks again for your review and be well.

Best Regards,

Earlier this month my wife and I were able to stay at a local hotel for a few nights. We wanted something at least as luxurious as the two large, brand-name, downtown hotels, but away from the hustle-and-bustle of downtown. We wanted something scenic, but not with cramped quarters. We looked around and settled on The Westin, situated on the banks of the Sacramento River in a predominantly residential area. The Westin gave us natural beauty as well as genuine luxury with just a hint of “European” and “boutique” in its architecture and décor. Our room was elegant, large, and quiet, and the service friendly and impeccable. We were visibly impressed; it exceeded our expectations. We found the hotel and the natural beauty of the river and nearby trees to be ideal for relaxing and unwinding after a busy day. Plus, room service (presumably by the famed Scotts Seafood on the River) was without peer – simply delicious. We liked The Westin well enough to stay for the weekend, but, unfortunately, the hotel was full. Upon hearing of our plight the front desk offered to monitor for cancellations. They ultimately found one and we relished our extended stay. Wondering whether our enthusiasm for The Westin may have been partly hometown pride, on our last morning I asked another couple riding down in the elevator how they liked the hotel. Instantly they chorused, “We love it!” (They were from Colorado.) We do too. We shall return!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Sacramento River.

We enjoy staying at this Westin by the river to break up our drive to L.A. By the time we arrive we have been driving for 6 hours and are pretty tired. When we arrived we asked for an upgrade for our room, this was a big mistake. The lady checking us in must have been a new staff member because it took her 45 minutes to check us in to our room, she could not figure out how to upgrade our room!! It was very exhausting standing there while she tried to figure out how to check us in to our original room while she helped other people!!!! Not cool Westin! Spend more time training your employees so that we can spend less time waiting on them!!!!

This place is my go to place to relax and clear my head. The location is beautiful. From the moment I arrive till the moment I check out, i am always greeted with a smile. The staff is amazing. The housekeeping department is always there if I need extra things. The rooms are extra clean and large. I never stay anywhere else when I am in the area.
Thank you Westin
