I got a room here to be close to 2nd Saturday Art Walk. The managers/owners were very stingy. I expected to have 2 people in my room for the night which cost $79.69 total. Because I ended up having 4 people total who stayed the night, she charged me extra, which is no problem. She charged me $108.69. I went home and saw that the charge for 4 people through their website is only $89.69. When I called to get a refund, she said no, I will only refund you $10.00. Now I don't mind paying extra for having 4 people, but not paying a penny more than what the stated online price is for 4 people. The guy manager (husband) walks around to make sure that the stated number of people in the rooms is in the rooms. We weren't causing any troubles or noise or anything, they just wanted to make a quick buck off of me. This was the 2nd time I stayed at this hotel, and I would think that she should at least let me off this time with a warning for being a repeat customer. Their customer service really stinks.

The room: Old and needed updating. The sink backed up water and took a few minutes to drain. There was a leak in the pipe. The remote control for the TV channel button went down, but not up. The continental breakfast was cheap. A couple of cheap pastries, although the coffee was not bad.

Area: GHETTO. I walked half a block north to Don's Bottle Shop to get some sodas when I saw some guy get off his bike and punch some other guy in the face. The other guy was on the ground and I had to call 911. Emergency vehicles came to attend to him. This was in broad daylight. If you can handle a little GHETTO, then it's close enough to walk to 2nd Saturday and some cool downtown nightclubs.

DO NOT GO HERE unless you need a really cheap place and are not planning on having more than 2 people, and can stand potentially running into a little bit of violence.

I went to Sacramento for an academic conference. When I arrived, I found two other Korean scholars going to the same conference were trying to check in. I heard that they were requesting change of names on the reservation (probably for the reimbursement reasons, I guess). Although I was helped within no seconds and I experienced a very smooth check-in, l learned later that it took them 2 hours but the staff was very patient.

That night, when I could not get the ice machine (which was really "old-fashioned" by the way) working, the front-desk staff immediately came out of the office to help me even before I tried to ask for.

My friend sent me several pages of fax late that night. Although I was not sleeping, I thought it might be too late for me to go there and get it. However, they called me immediately upon receiving the fax.

I originally planned to stay for two nights but decided to stay one more on the second day. They helped me to make sure that I will stay in the same room and my room key will still work. Everything was smooth!

On the third day, my plan changed again and I used my rewards points for reservation. They gave me their word everything will be still smooth and they made it.

The overall experience with this hotel was really super!

The not-so-good: The hotel is older, not really deluxe or frill-bedecked. But you knew that from the name.

The good: The manager was soooo nice. He gave directions to the courthouse, he suggested restaurants within walking distance, he was pleasant and accommodating, let us check out late, genuinely wished us well. The internet service was great too, the rooms were basic and clean and obviously the property is cared for even if it's older. And they had an elevator to get up to the room! (I was so tired after my flights.) I would more than definitely go back if the management is the same. A very courteous and friendly gentleman.

And the beds are genuinely comfortable - I slept from seven pm till the next morning (I was very tired) and woke up with no back pain or the slightest problem.

After reading some of the negatively-oriented reviews, I was not expecting very much. However, I was pleasantly surprised in just about every aspect of my stay here. Facilities were clean and the carpet looked pretty new. Check-in person was very pleasant and helpful. I was on the third floor and it was quiet. One negative could be the grounds are not secured in that anyone could walk up to your door, but that is a given for a motel style facility.
I think this was a very good value for the money, and I will stay here again on my next visit to Sacramento..

This is a marginal and run-down 70's, very tired property desperately in need of renovation. Continental breakfast was very minimal - but a Starbucks is luckily within walking distance. There is internet - friendly staff, clean rooms, but you get less than what you pay for.
