“Good value & location for the budget traveler.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2011

As others have said, this is an old property.

I used Choice Hotels rewards for my stay and found 8,000 points per night with the downtown location a good value.

Check-in with Frances was friendly and efficient. The elevator is slow, but functioned fine. My room on the 3rd floor was clean and spacious with a mini fridge. The comforter under the bedspread was a box-stitched down-like comforter that seemed brand new. Pillows and towels were fine. My bare feet were a little dirty from walking around on the carpet. The bathroom was clean and well-stocked with towels, tissue and shampoo / soap.

I didn't hear any noise from next door neighbors, if I had any. Street noise wasn't noticeable maybe because of the fan or a/c running. No problems with the [free] wifi signal.

I did not use the pool, which is next to the lobby. It wasn't sparkling clean, but looked like it needed a little filtering.

Breakfast was good considering it's typical American hotel Continental - all carbs, no proteins - cereals, yogurt, pastries, muffins, juice and coffee. The waffle maker was a plus.

Safety wasn't an issue. As a solo female traveler, I never felt unsafe walking in the area day or evening and appreciated the need for key card at the gate to the elevator.

There's a Starbuck's with limited hours [8pm Mon-Sat, 6pm Sun] right around the corner at 15th & H St. Many restaurants 2+ blocks away along J Street.

Overall, my experience was very good. I would definitely stay there again.

PS - If you're looking to use your Choice points and don't want a property with exterior corridors, the Clarion a half-block away is 10,000 per night. Check for my review there too.

This hotel ain't real pretty on the outside, but for the price and location, it's pretty hard to beat. We stayed here for a week in July to attend a National Convention.

Yes, we could have stayed at one of the three "official" convention hotels, which had a negotiated "special" rate. But, for around half the total, we stayed as close to the Convention Centre as the closest "official" hotel and had included breakfast, WI-FI, coffee in the lobby, local phone calls and parking.

For our inclusive rate (less than $600 for 7 nts), we were comfortable, safe (security gates at each floor), fed in the morning and couldn't wish for better. Yes, there was some noise from a nearby nightclub with patrons leaving late at night, but with the air/con on, it was hardly noticeable.

Our room was #207, which was located next to the elevator, ice machine and drink machine, whic concerned us on checking in. But, not a sound or vibration from any of them.

We have to mention the location again. Not only is it one block from the Convention Centre, but one block from the Governor's Mansion, two blocks from the K Street Mall and just a few more to the State Capitol complex. There are also a good variety of eating places nearby.

Well worth considering this hotel whether on business or vacation. Do yourself a favour and save a few dollars.

I think they key to this Quality Inn is managing your expectations. It's not the most modern property, and it shows in many places. Some parts look shabby and old, including occasional aspects of the room finish. However, the location is hard to beat for the area.

The staff I encountered ranged from neutral to friendly. Free parking, breakfast and wi-fi can't be ignored. The beds were comfortable, the TV channels plentiful and the shower relatively powerful. The immediate area surrounding the hotel offers access to plenty of Downtown eateries and bars.

Yes - there are undoubtedly nicer hotels in Sacramento. There are newer ones also. However, if you're paying the quite reasonable prices that the Quality Inn is charging for the rooms, expect that not everything will be perfect and new, and you might find that the Quality Inn is a choice worth considering.

The price was very good ($65 without tax; $74 with tax) with free parking (we've never had any problems in parking there). However, the room was a disappointment. The black chair was stained all over; it'd be better that the room din't have any chair, than to have one like that...
The floor in the shower stall was cracked as you can see in the photos -> room 220) and the towels were very thin. TV was OK, although I don't remember if it had many channels or not; didn't see it too much, anyway. The bed was comfortable enough. The sink area was also fine with granite stone. We would hear some street noise (both nights) and people talking loud (in one night).
In the reception the staff was quite indifferent, but check-in and chek-out was fast. Complimentary breakfast was also OK (there was toasts, yogurt, eggs (boiled and scrambled, waffles, juices, milk, coffee).
Next time I prefer to pay more and have a more decent room!

Room Tip: Probably not staying in this hotel...avoid 220!

I stayed here while attending a conference hosted at the nearby convention center. Walking there was simple and easy, and the location of the hotel was clearly the primary benefit for staying in this hotel.

The complimentary breakfast was surprisingly good compared to other budget hotels I've visited. This was my first time travelling anywhere on my own, and I was a bit nervous. One staff member was extremely helpful and friendly. The other I interacted with was quite rude and seemed irritated to even be talked to.

Then we move to the room itself (315). This was absolutely terrible. The desk chair was mysteriously stained, the coffee pot was dirty, the bed was lumpy and uncomfortable, the blankets were thread thin, the shower door would not close all the way, there were very few electrical sockets (I struggled to find convenient places to plug in my phone that didn't leave it on the ground), the wifi signal in my room was too weak to work, the television provided a blurry washed out picture, and the room was simply in a general state of disrepair. I could tell that the maids had worked hard to keep the room as clean as possible, but the place was simply in need of serious renovation.

One warning: I needed to change my reservation after a change in plans. I did so online two weeks before leaving, but my reservation was not changed on the hotel's computer system. I was charged without any warning or notice for an additional night's stay even though my room was given to someone else. I was also forced to stay in a smoking room.

Bottom line: It's hard to beat the price in this location, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone who wanted to do anything more than sleep in their room.

Room Tip: Don't go to 315

As you enter, its nice to be greeted by a professional receptionist who is smiling and confident about what she is doing. She gave good eating suggestions available all around the motel. The room was very clean and sleep quality was excellent. Parking is a little tight but managable. Breakfast had a lot of options with hot items like eggs and sausages. Eating area is big and very clean. Although in the downtown area but it was very quite during the night. Wifi signal was very good. Highly recomended.

I usually like the Quality Inn chain, but I'm surprised by the number of four-star reviews for this one. The front-desk staff was friendly, but the room reeked of bleach and was in some disrepair. The shower stall needed to be replaced, and the bathroom fan sounded like it was about to break. Parking is fairly limited. At 3:30 in the afternoon, there were only a few spots left. I think with a little love, this place could be fine, but as it is, it's below average.
