This hotel is proximate to the Capitol building in the California capital.
The rooms here are bigger than usual Hyatt and quite well appointed.
We attend a conference here once per year and it usually runs well. Food is excellent although the coffee provided is not so good. There is an excellent bar in the lobby that attracts workers from the local govt offices on Fridays.
Upper floor rooms have the best views of either the park opposite or the Capitol building.

I stayed at this hotel many years ago and was delighted to find that it has been renovated. The lobby areas are still undergoing some construction, but the rooms are very nicely appointed with highly functional desks, comfortable bedding, and a chaise lounger by the windows. The TV is a huge flat panel and the hotel has 2 tiers of wireless internet access. There is nothing really spectacular about the rooms, pretty standard for Hyatt.

Two things that might be on concern though are:

1.) Thin walls. I could hear my neighbor sneezing and coughing much of the night. I was in room 750.

2.) Remote Gym. To access the room you have to exit the hotel property. Though the door requires a room key, the gym does not have an attendant so you may be there alone.

Rooms on L Street (even numbers) will tend to hear a bit of street noise throughout the day/evening.

Valet Parking is Sacramento standard $25 per day.

Overall, this is pretty good for downtown Sacramento. There are 2 other full service hotels within walking distance that are worth considering though the Hyatt is on L Street making it a little closer to the Capitol.

Room Tip: Even numbers face L street meaning nice views of the Capitol and park, but there expect street noice...

The Hyatt Regency Sacramento is, bar none, the best hotel in Sacramento. The rooms tend to be a little pricey compared to other hotels. But if you keep your eyes open (check the Hyatt webpage and other travel websites), the room rates are regularly discounted, especially on weekends. The bar in the lobby is quite nice (occasionally live music-like a guitar player), as is the breakfast-lunch restaurant. When the weather is nice, you can sit outside, too.

Pros: Location--one block off of Capitol Mall, right by the capitol building; service--friendly, efficient, and competent; rooms--clean and quiet; common areas--attractive.

Cons: Price--often one of the most expensive hotels in Sacramento; parking--added cost to the room rate, and sometimes the multi-level parking structure is difficult to get in and out of; food--the food quality is uneven (when it's good, it is quite good, but sometimes the food is not prepared properly and/or is not fresh), and even for a Hyatt, the food prices, especially room service, are quite pricey.

Room Tip: Check the internet before traveling. If you research far enough in advance, you can usually find a...

We stayed in room 936, which had a great view of the capital building. The bed was comfortable, amenities were nice (although we would definitely prefer a useable fridge over a minibar). The sitting chair at the end of the bed was much too modern to be comfortable.

We stayed at 6 different hotels over 6 nights on this trip and this was the only one that didn't offer free WiFi.

The hotel's location was perfect for us. We walked to dinner downtown and then to Old Sacramento the following morning.

The staff was incredible. Heather, who checked us in, made us feel genuinely welcomed. Upon checking out, we realized that they had the wrong package for us in the system. Our package was supposed to have come with a bottle of champagne. At checkout, they offered to get a bottle for us or to just give us a $20 credit. There was also a $0.90 charge from breakfast on our bill that they removed (breakfast up to $20 each was included in our package, plus tip - we went a little over the $20 each).

The breakfast was really mediocre. We did have the buffet, so may have had a different experience had we ordered off the menu. The server was very good.

Our package also came with a late check out, so we spent the late morning/early afternoon at the pool. The pool is very small and (at least at this time of day) completely shaded. The lounge chairs were in the sun, but the pool was shaded (and thus cold). The hot tub was closed for some reason. Chairs were not in the best condition or the most comfortable. The biggest drawback was the street noise. The pool is right next to the sidewalk and street - separated by an iron fence and a hedge. It did not make for a relaxing poolside experience, which is what we were hoping for.

We are seasoned Hyatt visitors. We had a group block of rooms for a Wedding. With over 20+ rooms on a weekend, I can say the Front Desk was very accommodating. I got to see 4 of the rooms they have. The Capital Suite with the living room, a regular King room, regular double bed room, and a corner King room. All of which were very clean. Housekeeping and service staff was all amazing. The Breakfast Buffet ($20 for adults) included made to order omlets, as much coffee, tea or juice as you wanted, along with the other muffins, and buffet items. VERY good and staff was beyond great. The only draw back is the price of parking. Valet actually lost my car for a moment but were able to find it... Bell men were great. I would suggest getting a room closer to the elevators since there is a bit of a walk if you have a corner King Suite. Also, I would of liked if the in-room AC would go lower than the set 65 degrees. In the Capital Suite with the connected living room, there is only 1 AC, which services the Bedroom, not the living area. It gets very warm in the front part of the room too. And for this being one of their best suites, I was surprised the bathroom to only have a shower, or a tub. NOT both! Another mentionable thing... If you're getting a standard KING room, you will ONLY have a shower. The double rooms have a bathtub with shower connection. All in all, this hotel serves for the business traveler. The lobby has recently been re-done, however I like it better before. There really is limited seating and realistically just a hall of tile, no flowers or anything "welcoming" like before... Location is great downtown and the park is near, along with the capital as well! The Bride in our group was very pleased the service staff had put champagne in her room 2 nights in a row, with chocolate covered strawberries along with rose petals... so for that, I give a VERY good review. THey were also really good about giving us all early check in when needed. Front Desk is amazing!

I spent 2 full days at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento. As a meeting planner, I found the staff very intuitive to the needs for the meeting, and I felt very confident that they could handle any additions I asked of them. They did not let me down, and our conference came off beautifully. As a meeting planner, I received VIP treatment, and knew my CEO was getting the same treatment. I had a 2 room suite on the 7th floor with a beautiful view of Sacramento's Capital building from my balcony. The king bed was very comfortable, and the room was clean and quiet. Had the conference not kept me in the ballroom all day, I would have enjoyed relaxing in the room. The meals were delicious, and healthy. I am a vegetarian, and had no problem finding food on the buffets. I would not hesitate to book a room for vacations, couples, or solo. Hotel is very safe.

The Hyatt's location across from the State Capitol (whose grounds provide a welcome respite on a sunny afternoon) is fabulous. The lobby was recently renovated - it's a bright & airy space. The breakfast buffet in Vines Cafe (lobby level) was very good and surprisingly not that expensive compared to many hotel restaurants. Although not advertised on the menu, you can get a "continental" buffet at a reduced rate. Dinner at Dawson's (also on the lobby level) was excellent and our server made the evening even more enjoyable. Only one misgiving about Dawson's - the noisy bar next to the dining room takes away from the atmosphere of the restaurant. My husband and I had to shout over the voices of a high school reunion group. One other beef - the hotel doesn't have a computer terminal available to guests at no charge. There is a business centre - with a minimum $7.50 charge for 15 minutes of computer time. When I travel for leisure, I don't pack my laptop. Obviously, this hotel caters to business travelers.
