“Riverside rooms are the best”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2011

We stayed 3 nights in the Delta King and enjoyed the delicious food. friendly service, beautiful sunsets and especially the view of the river. Rooms are small like others have said, but if you know that going in, you see the charm of the old days, and it's fine. So convenient to all kinds of activities - the train museum, the streets full of fun shops and restaurants, and through the tunnel you can visit a Mall. We liked just sitting in the bar, with a drink and snack, watching the boats go by. We felt the valet parking was a big help because it is quite difficult to park on the streets. Our favorite restaurant was Ten 22 because of our fantastic waiter, Jose. Food was outstanding too.

Room Tip: The riverside is definately the best room side.

The hotel is very charming, well located in Old Sacramento, near restaurants and bars. The rooms are quite good, although you are on a boat. The standard of the rooms is higher than the number of stars. Free internet, which is nice! The breakfast was fine, although the service statt always seemed a bit confused and stressed, nevertheless nice attention and cordial staff.

The rooms were fine, and the hotel pictures (their site) actually show a true picture of the rooms.

The location is first class. The boat is close to first class. Accommodation is just fine, clean and comfortable. Restaurant is good but just short of 5 stars. Recommended.

We stayed there because we were going to the baseball game at the Rivercats Stadium and it was very convenient for that, we walked over the bridge and there we were. It cost about $12 for valet parking but if we would have parked in the parking structure it would have been $10 I think and not sure how much at the ballpark so it was worth it. This is a river boat so the rooms are VERY tiny even though we got a luxury room. Very cute fixtures and furnishings though. There are tables outside the room where you can sit and have a drink or watch the river. The price for the room did include a fixed menu breakfast in the morning that was good, however we still felt it was too expensive for the room, especially as it is soooooo very tiny.

Room Tip: It wouldn't work so I had to call. Get the best room available, especially if claustrophobic

Several of my friends and I met there, had dinner and spent the night. It was perfect! We live in various places throughout the Sacramento Valley and San Francisco Bay Area so we were looking for a really good place to get together. We really chose right! The bar (and grill) is gorgeous, the Pilothouse Restaurant divine, and the rooms are so cute! We all ordered something different for dinner and we all loved what we had! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The bar had a fun band. We stayed up late and slept in, then went to the super breakfast. We were having such a good time that we stayed almost 'till dinner the next day! We had lunch at the bar and grill in the Delta Lounge. It has a more casual feel and it's very economical but it has the same wonderful food. We left promising each other we would come back next year!

Room Tip: Spring for the riverside rooms and try to get on the 5th deck. It's great to be on the water.

We chose the Delta King for a one-night stay where I met up with a friend because we wanted to be near downtown and Old Sacramento. The hotel is on the river (literally!) and right across the railroad tracks from Old Sacto. We paid extra for rooms on the river side, but that was really a waste of money, since none of the rooms have a private balcony and anyone can just walk around the decks and see the river. All but a couple of rooms are entered from the public deck, and, with the lights on all night and the foot traffic going by at all hours, the rooms were not very quiet at all.

Not to mention the trains that go by at 3:00am! The railroad bridge across the river is very close to the Delta King, and obviously there are no such things as quiet hours for trains traveling across it. We were just very, very grateful we had only booked one night there after getting such a bad night's sleep.

The rooms are quirky, as no two are the same. My room was small, but had a huge bathroom. My friend's room next door was quite large, but with a tiny bathroom. So, you really won't know what you're getting until you're all checked in (unless you pay the big bucks for the Captain's Quarters, but they certainly did not seem worth over $500 per night!). The rooms were comfortable enough, especially for just one night, but a longer term stay would start to become cramped (not much room in the way of storing clothes or suitcases).

After an afternoon of sightseeing in Old Sacto, we decided to try the restaurant for dinner. BIG mistake. The service was unbelievably slow, and my friend's steak was way overcooked. When we called the waiter over, before we could even say anything, he said, "Oh, your steak is overdone." In other words, he knew he had served us overcooked meat and yet he served it anyway. He took her steak back for a new one...and then we never saw him again! We finally had to ask one of the other servers where he was, and she then took over our table. We were just so annoyed by that time that we just wanted to eat and get out of there. Unfortunately, that still took some time, as the poor girl who took over the table was obviously overworked. It just was an awful experience all the way around.

The included breakfast the next morning was decent, and the service was much better, but the restaurant was not crowded at all when we got there, so perhaps that was the difference.

For the money, next time we will definitely stay at the Embassy Suites nearby, or the Holiday Inn in Old Sacto. There were just too many issues at the Delta King for us to want to return.

What a fun place! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We did the Suspects murder mystery dinner...great fun! The food is mediocre, but the entertainment makes up for that!!
