Oct 28, 2009 | Trip type: Couples

We arrived 10-26-09 for a 3 night stay. Check in was great. Asked for an upstairs room facing the courtyard not near an elevator or ice machines. Was sadly informed all rooms were near the ice machine. Had a good laugh. They asked if 2 double beds were ok and we said yes. Took elevator to our room. Interior hallways had a slight musty smell, but not too bad. Room had 2 double beds. Beds are confortable. Room and furnishings are in need of a makeover.Where's Oprah when you need her! Carpet had some stains. Room seemed clean. Opened sliding door to air out stuffy room. Then turned on AC to cool room down. It did not work. The fan didn't even go on. Called front desk and maintanence was there within 10 minutes. They found the problem in a remote electrical panel. Circuit breaker was tripped. Fan and AC now working. Next morning after a cool night went to turn on heat.No heat. Called front desk. Informed me they will let maintanence know. Asked for extra blankets just in case. Came back early afternoon. Room was still cold and the heater was still not working. Went down to front desk. Was told they have a 2 pipe system and they will switch over to heating side that evening. No blankets were sent to our room, so asked again. Blankets were sent up at that point. Came back to our room later that evening and still no heat. Next morning room is even colder now. Still no heat. Went out to breakfast and we stopped by the front desk to inquire about the status of any heat and was informed by front desk they had repair people onsite working on it. We finally got heat at 2pm this afternoon. I think what is so fustrating is they should have put some small portable heaters in the rooms in the interm. They did not have any idea as to how long it was going to take to repair the system. There has been no apology or any effort to comprnsate us for our discomfort. I also want to mention we got our room on Priceline. If it were not for that( being there are no refunds etc.) we would have left and gone to another hotel. I cannot reccommend this hotel.
One last observation. They have restrooms located downstairs from the lobby. I went in there to use the restroom and noticed an large access panel in the ceiling was open which exposed pipers etc. There was a distinct smell of mold and I could see the paint was peeling away from the ceiling from water damage and the ceiling was dark with mold. It was bad.

Stayed here for conference in Sacramento. The Clarion Hotel is right next to adjacent Holiday Inn Express and some other seedy motels across the street. Although in a rough neighborhood, at least there is free parking. But that is where all the (lackluster) thrills start from here.

They claim that there was a renovation done, but rather the renovation appears to have been focused on the lobby than the actual hotel rooms itself.

The hotel is more like a motel, the room entrances are on the outside. When you get past the lobby it has a circa 1950s feel to it.

As repeated as in the other reviews, this hotel really feels filthy - in my stay, stains on the carpets, curtains, and even cigarette butts burned through the comforter. The bathroom was even less desirable with the dirty grout. Room service - non existent.

The location is alright, right across the Gov's Mansion (which is a museum now), a nightclub, Music Circus, Convention Center/Memorial Center are not too far away, although the one way streets may make the trip a little confusing.

I made a reservation a week in advance and then traveled 400 miles to arrive and find out that they did not have a room for me. They could have call my home or my cell to let me know, so that i could have made other arrangements. The rude women at the front desk informed me that the hotel had in fact been full for two day. Why did i even make a reservation and give them a credit card if they are not even going to have a room waiting for me when I get there? BOO BOO BOO THIS PLACE SUCKS!!!

I had driven down from Redding, CA for a one night stay before flying out of Sacramento at 6 a.m. Neighborhood was okay. Received a room with an exterior corridor around the pool - had a run down Melrose Place feel. Not the best room type for a single woman traveling alone. Loud exterior noise on the street and outside of door. Bed was comfortable, although the room was a bit dated. Remote control on t.v. did not work well. Ants in the bathroom. Wireless was not working and my internet to not fit into the lamp outlet provided. Front desk staff was friendly at both check-in and the following morning when calling me a cab. The Mansion Cafe actually had excellent food and outstanding service at a reasonable price. I was very pleased. Overall an acceptable stay for not a lot of money.

First of all, they lost my reservation - the desk clerk was not helpful, but did finally give me a room, which had stained carpet, chair and bedspread. The TV remote wouldn't work, and the door wouldn't lock. There were noisy guests in the middle of the night, but I couldn't get a response from the desk to take care of the problem. The bathroom was tiny, and grout was missing in the floor tile. I will never stay here again, and I stay in Sacramento regularly on my way to and from California.
