“Good value and great location for a conference”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

I stayed at the Best Western Plus Sutter House while in Sacramento for a conference and thought it was a great value. The hotel was very clean, free wifi always worked, and the staff was wonderful - so friendly and helpful. It was also a very convenient walk to the convention center and nearby restaurants. No need for a car at all if you're limiting yourself to the downtown area. My only recommendation would be to ask for a room away from the corner nearest the intersection if you're a light sleeper. I could hear some road traffic and the light rail at times. Didn't bother me but might bother someone who couldn't sleep if there was noise.

“Comfortable stay and reasonable price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

My colleague and I were in Sacramento for a conference. We decided to stay here because it was a reasonable price. The complimentary breakfast was decent. They don't have a fitness area at this time but have a deal ($7 per visit) at a nearby gym. Wi-fi was free and worked. The room was clean and cleaned-up well each day we stayed.

The staff at the front desk are really nice and considerate. I would come here again.

“A great find in the center of Sacramento”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We stayed 2 nights at the Best Western Plus Sutter House and we were very pleased with both the hotel and the location. We had an oversized queen room. The decor was lovely, the beds very comfortable, and the hotel clean. The included breakfast was very adequate with a hot entry and a wide selection of yogurts, breads, fruits and cereals. It even had covered parking. It was a 5 minute walk from the convention center, the state capitol, and many restaurants. The staff was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and directions. We will most definitely stay here when we return to Sacramento.

“Would have been ok, until theft!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

The hotel was fine, but someone got into our room and stole some money. Ok, that out of the way, some details:

Good
- Decent value for the price. Continental breakfast is included and was actually quite good - plenty of selections (including healthier options), plenty of tables in the breakfast room. Free covered parking.
- The area felt ok. If we'd stayed more than one night, we would have been comfortable walking to restaurants.
- Our room was spacious and comfortable - very nice beds, modern decor, flatscreen, etc. It all felt very fresh. Green toiletries, nice coffeemaker, good towels. We had a third floor interior room (looked onto the courtyard pool) and I don't recall too much noise.
- Check-in clerk was very friendly and helpful.
- We didn't use the pool, but it looked clean and was quite large for this type of motel.
- Nice desk and task chair if you need to get work done.

Not So Good
- Even though I'd looked on Google streetview, it was hard to find at night - signage is small and poorly lit. We circled the block before finding the driveway.
- Part of that is the odd setup. The ground level is entirely the parking lot and small lobby. The hotel is built in two floors on top of that. So those pictures of the pool in the interior courtyard? That's actually the second floor. It all works once you're in there, it's just difficult to recognize from the street.
- I foolishly left my purse in the room while at breakfast, and someone came in and lifted all the cash. Shame on me, but also shame on the thief! The check-out clerk wasn't particularly reponsive, but I did get an email from management later. (They implied we hadn't locked the door properly.) I know this could happen at any hotel anywhere, but it did put a damper on things.

Room Tip: Pool-level interior rooms open right onto the pool terrace. Super convenient or never-ending horrif...

“Choose Wisely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

This place has been refurbished nicely.
There are inside and outside rooms. That is, some have windows which open to the streets bordering it, while others have windows which open inside outdoor corridors---that will not please privacy seekers.

The pool is not heated and there is no jacuzzi. The bed was a little firm.

But their best feature is Yvette. She was so helpful when we decided we wanted another room---from inside to outside. My very discerning wife thought she was about the best registration clerk she had ever encountered. She also offered to print our boarding passes when some guy was monopolizing the one computer business center.
