We stayed at this hotel in early August. While it was quite hot in Sacramento, this hotel mad our stay extremely pleasant. It is located about 2 blocks from the capital which was quite convenient. It has a very nice pool and workout room. The rooms were large with a full kitchen, and a separate bedroom. The staff was very friendly and met all of our needs and as always, the Residence Inn included breakfast was good and varied. Eggs, sausage, cereal, waffles, bagels, rools, donuts, juice, etc.

I have only 2 very minor gripes:

1. Parking - $17 a day seems a bit steep, especially since there is no valet, and the parking lot is across an alley from the hotel.

2. The pans in the kitchen were made for gas burners, not electric burners, so if you plan on cooking in the room, using the range might prove a bit difficult.

There is a hip club across the street named the Ultra Lounge (http://www.cabanasacramento.com/about.php). Even if you stay on the top floor of the hotel, it is guaranteed that you will hear the club ALL NIGHT LONG. Even the front desk expects many visitors to leave the hotel daily because of the noise and did note what a terrible location it was for a club.

So congrats to another bad decision by the California government in allowing a club to control the fate of a good looking downtown hotel. Hopefully the nightly violation of the noise ordinace and taxation of club profits more than makes up for the loss of all the hotel taxes and fees that are being lost by this Marriott Residence Inn.

Moved to the Larkspur Landing hotel on Howe Street and slept well for the rest of my trip.

Probably not your first choice with regards location if its shops and nightlife you are after but it is right over the road from the Capitol Building. That said there are some very good restaurants within walking distance.

I liked this Residence Inn, it was welcoming, clean, tidy and with very friendly staff. I had a suite which was exceedingly well furnished with every kitchen utensil you need. The room was spotless; the comfy bed and low ambient noise levels allowed me to have some good nights’ sleep.

Parking was easy being adjacent to the hotel – and, as the valets were off for my stay, also free! Check in to your room with your bags before parking though, it’s not “that” close!

Only downsides were my aircon which was stuck on hot when I arrived, it was however fixed before I turned in for the night. And the pool, which was quite acceptable but, due to the building orientation, does not seem to catch any afternoon sun. Very good though for those who forgot to pack the sunscreen.

Would definitely stay again.

I stayed in a 2 room suite for 4 nights for a convention at the Convention Center and the Hyatt with my teenage daughter. There was a king bed in the bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room/kitchen.
Pros:
-New hotel, clean, beautiful lobby with cozy areas to sit/relax including bar area
-Short walk to convention site, area relatively safe
-Frozen meals & snacks in lobby, had one cheap dinner in room
-Ice maker inside room frig (no trips out of room needed)
-One bartender was very friendly/helpful (wish I had written down his name)
-Hot breakfast buffet, staff there were helpful
-Very good price on a Marriott special/lower than convention rate
Cons:
-Fortunately I checked in a day before most of the convention families. My pals who arrived and checked in the next day had to wait hours until early evening to get their rooms. Desk staff did not seem friendly (they were swamped by a lot of incoming folks).
-I never saw a valet for "valet parking" my entire stay. Parking was not convenient, building was next door with unsafe walk to get there across narrow hotel driveway with not much sidewalk around a sharp bend, then up another elevator to floors 5-7 to park.
-Low supply of yogurt cartons at breakfast, ran out immediately
-Room with king bed is small, not much room to maneuver around bed/closet is tiny
-Bed not comfortable for some reason/odd for new hotel. Sofa bed terribly uncomfortable (common in most hotels)
-Asked for quiet location away from elevator, stairwell etc. but was given room at end of hall next to the stairwell so could hear noise from that from time to time.
-Why do I always get awakened by early am trash trucks (not the fault of the hotel, but one morning it was 4:25 am!)?
