“Food great, service very good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

Greek Village Inn provides LARGE portions of very tasty and well presented food. Unless you are a big eater figure on bringing a doggy bag home. The staff are friendly and helpful. The bar is stocked with Greek alcoholic beverages as well as the usual standards. Recently, I had to grab a quick lunch and told them when I had to be out of there and I was able to leave on time even though it took only one-half hour from walking in to walking out. On other evenings I could eat a leisurely meal without any rush at all.

“Delicious!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012 via mobile

Had the spicy feta dip as an appetizer, excellent. The gyro plate was amazing, as was the chicken pita. Will definitely return and try a few different things on the menu. Strongly recommend for lunch or dinner. Owner was extremely friendly and our waitress was fantastic. Can't wait to go back.

“Not exactly the Greek Food Festival, But like a shot of Ouzo; it'll drink”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

My dad will always be a 'Meat & Potatoes' kind of guy. Lots of Comfort food, big portions, not too spicy, not too weird. I, on the other hand, hate bland, comfort food and lust for the adventure of a good Indian Food Tali (Shrimp, chicken & Lamb served on a bed of long grain white rice), Korean BBQ, Vietnamese food and my Beloved GREEK Food.

Sacramento needs a GOOD Greek Restaurant and regrettably, this ain't it. I mean, the location's nice (near CSUS) off of Watt Ave, the ambiance is nice and they even have a nice patio to enjoy your outside dining. AND they serve a Lemon Soup Chicken,Rice and Lemon to die for but great soup does not, a Greek restaurant, make.

The food is serviceable Greek but not OUTSTANDING GREEK. What do I eat when I dine Greek? Spanakopta, Triropita, Beef Souvlaki, Domaethes, Pita Bread, Petsitzio, Some Gyro, a Greek Salad, Fresh Bread, that White Sauce on the side, some Greek Lemon rice and some Ouzo finished off with a Coke.

Why is Greek Food more expensive than Mexican Food? Answer: Because Mexican Food is 'Wham, Bamm; thank you ma'am!!!" Greek Food is like that scene in 10 with the song Belaro in the background. It takes FOREVER to happen ONCE. Why? Greek Food is mostly Pastry Food---it takes forever for the Filo Dough to rise and be flakey & fresh. Good Greek Food, like the Greek Food Festival, just crumbles in your mouth because it is so FRESH. The Triokopia I had was cold and almost brick hard, as if they made it a couple of days earlier and chilled it. Same with the other things I had---freezer fresh?!!!

It all comes to attention to detail. Take their Domethes (rice & beef or Lamb bits rolled up in grape leaves), it was servicable but bland and it didn't taste fresh (like it was made before and chilled). I know its a small restaurant and it takes along time to make Greek Food from Scratch---but as customers, WE'LL WAIT if its done r-i-g-h-t.

Again, this is SERVICEABLE Greek Food and far superior to, say, House of Kabob or Mediterranean Cafe but not by much if you exclude their FINE LEMON SOUP. Me? Order some bread, some salad and the Greek Lemon Soup and leave Happy, not settled. This place is Hyper-Expensive for Sacramento ethic food---expect on dropping $40.00 per person (one $20.00 plate, some bread, a coke and a tip).

“I'm full, I couldn't possibly eat dessert!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

But, yes, I can! After encouraging our lunch group to try the appetizer platter, they realized that Greek food is delicious! The dolmathes were delightful- even the ladies who said they weren't fans thought they were good. I chose the pastichio, something I had not had and can't wait to have again! It was a perfect mix of savory and sweet as the beschamel had a nutmeg flavor that wasn't overpowering. To top it off, the owner offered up a chocolate rum mousse that left us wanting to return ASAP! The recipe came from a taverna in Greece and was one of the best desserts ever!
