Chips and salsa are very good...so if that is how you determine where you eat Mexican food, then go to Ernesto's. Me, it is about the chips and salsa, but it is also about the wait staff, the ambience and not just the food. First outside of the colorful paper cutout banners hanging up, not much about this restaurant rings true to Mexico. It is dark inside and not that colorful other than some paintings on the wall where there are no windows. It could've been any other restaurant for that matter. The outdoor patio where we sat is right on a busy street. Note to self, lots of people are leaving a work day heading home at 5-7pm and the outdoor patio is VERY noisy. The wait staff was quick to wait on us and when ice splashed into our basket of chips they quickly took that basket away and brought out a fresh one. So far so good. As things got just a little busier it seemed that the attention to our table became less and less. We had drinks refreshed, but had a hard time getting the waiters attention to bring a bill. The food tasted good, but presentation was just average, no pictures here cause you have all seen enchiladas and rice and beans on white plates, even if these were large flat bowls. Nothing special. The flavors were what I expected, nothing more. It was the flies though that had us really wishing we had sat inside. They were constant and annoying. I couldn't believe how bad they were and that for being in this location as long as they have the managers had not found a way to deal with them. Fly zappers would help, or I hear pennies in zip locked bags of water strategically hung around do the trip nicely. Apparently, flies get spooked by these. For pennies this problem could be solved and we might be back. Or just sit inside and avoid the flies and noise.
