Me and my family wanted to spend labor day weekend away from home and just relax. We received a discounted room on the club level with free continental breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvres.
Ok so here are the bad things:
- You have to pay for parking. I recommend parking it across the street yourself for $18 per day instead of having the idiots do it for $25 per day. It seemed like everyone that valet parked were waiting around complaining about how long it took for them to get their car.
I think it's ridiculous to even have to pay for parking when you're a guest but at least you get in and out privileges.
- They have a good variety of paper view movies. Even some movies that are still in the theater. We rented The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3. But of course, it was $14 plus tax. The good thing about that is if you fall asleep watching the movie, it saves it for you for until 12pm the next night, I think. The bad thing is, they show commercials of "movies you can order now" and when you go to the menu, the movies on the commercial are not even there! Guest services claims there was a problem getting the movies downloaded. Whatever!
Then to top it off, the entire last night we were there, the menu option for the movies didn't work. We were unable to even access the system and rent a movie.
- WHAT THEY DON'T TELL YOU IS...room service goes to "lunch" from 12pm-5:30pm. WTF???? That's a siesta not a lunch break! I think all working class would love a break that long! We found out that it's because of the economy, they had to cut the service at this time. Don't worry, you're not missing anything anyway because...
- The room service menu is the exact same menu as the restaurant downstairs and it's not a lot of variety.
- Don't listen to the breakfast buffet story they give you at check in, it doesn't exist. We went for the buffet on Monday morning and were told they only do it if breakfast is busy. If there's not a crowd, there's no buffet. At this point, we're thinking, this place is getting better and better.
- DON'T USE THE BATH PRODUCTS. I had the pleasure of using the Mandarin mint lotion on my arms and about 15mins later, I broke out in a full fledged rush all up and down my arms. AMAZING!
- There's no safe in your room. They do have something at the concierge that you can use but I'd prefer to keep my things in my room.
- You're supposed to be able to use the TV menu to view your account but that option NEVER worked, not even once. Our biggest problem during our stay was the inconsistency of the menu on the TV.
- The "free continental breakfast" was mini (and I mean mini) pastries, a few boxes of cereal and toast. The evening hors d'oeuvres...baby egg rolls. Don't even bother paying extra for the included food. The club room is really small and because the food is free, everyone crowds in like cattle and sit around staring at one another. We walked right in and right back out. I don't like to have breakfast on top of other people while we pretend the food is good and the hotel attendant watches to make sure you don't walk out of the room with crappy food because "its not allowed".
- The "heated outdoor pool" is TINY! With a sign that actually states the pool limit is 11 people. WOW! If you consider it spitting out hot water in small amounts, every 20-30mins a heated pool, then this is it. I expected it to be and STAY heated, I should have known better. But no one else seemed interested in the pool so we had it all to ourselves which was a big plus.
THE GOOD THINGS:
- Even though the hotel has it's problems, the customer service is amazing. The people are nice, every time we called for towels or more coffee, water, we even called for a bottle opener, they were knocking at the door no more then 10mins later.
- The food at the restaurant is over priced but the omelets are great and the presentation is beautiful. They take a lot of time to make the meals look pretty.
- The view from the rooms on the club level are AMAZING! The room is mediocre and looks a little motel 6'ish but the bathrooms are nice.
- Starbucks coffee in the room is a big plus. But they only give you 2 pouches of coffee, 2 cups, 2 lids, 2 stirrers and 4 creams and sugar. So load up on the stuff when the maid comes.
- Anything you eat, drink, purchase or use gets billed directly to your room, nice!
- Check in was 3pm but we arrived at 10:30am and our room was ready. We were sooooo appreciative of that. I really thought we were going to have to hang around with our 2 year old until 3. But as soon as we gave our names, they said the room was ready.
Overall, I enjoyed my little getaway but I doubt I would ever go back to this hotel. I think this should be a 3 star hotel and not a 4 star one.
