“Happy hour appetizer plates make for a good deal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

Much needed cafe in Sacramento on R in midtown.
Coffee, pastries and salads.
Service is a bit impersonal and improvement in this area might make it better. Just being a little more friendly.
Happy hour plates are an excellent deal. With cheeses and crackers and prosciutto.
Limited milk choices. Just cow and rice. No soy.
With a few changes this place could be excellent.

“Outstanding food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

Lunch at 1PM was a bit hectic, but waiting in line to pay for your order was well worth the trouble. The orders actually were taken by a roving waitress as soon as you got in line. The delicious sandwiches (pulled pork & the Vietnamese sandwich - Banh Mi) arrived very quickly. The place was packed with happy diners. Noise level quite high, but the quality of the food is so good you are transported. 2 sandwiches came to about $20.

“If it were closer, I'd eat here four nights a week!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2012

EVERYTHING I have had here has been superb! My go-to's, however, are the chicken salad that is so light yet delicious and satisfying, not oily and heavy at all, and their version of the bahn mi! I have tried their fish dishes five times and loved each and every one of them! And the carrot cake cookies are freakin addicting! One of my favorite three restaurants in Sacramento!

“Wonderful Lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2012

Visited Magpie on a weekend, 300pm. The inside was 50% occupied on a rainy Saturday, indicating a true following of locals. 15 or so tables dominate the room, along with two counters showing off some of the fares. On-street parking only in this neighborhood. Outside seating available, but today it rains.
Wonderful choices on the menu, even for a late lunch. Our table dined on Pilled Pork Sandwich, Lemon Chicken Salad and Beef Stew. All were fresh, savory, tasty, with local ingredients. Great presentations. Delivered tableside promptly. Service was quick, friendly, able. Ample drink menu for a smallish restaurant. No wine for us this date, just sodas/spark.water.
We enjoyed the visit, and will be back again. Clearly the place deserves an evening visit as well.
3 entrees,. two sodas 38.00 before tip.
