“Across the street from Davis Med Center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2014

Our son was invited to Davis's Accepted Student day and originally, we weren't going to go and with 24 hours notice, we needed a hotel for 5 people. We used our rewards and got this hotel.
We arrived very late from Southern California and had a hard time finding the hotel since the GPS kept trying to send us somewhere else and, that late at night off of the highway, everything looked really sketchy so try to arrive during daylight hours.
We were in a large SUV and since we had a 9 hour commute, the kids needed to be comfortable. FIRST ISSUE: Parking. The parking lot is underground and is really difficult to maneuver in a large SUV. Only one car can go in and out safely because the pitch and narrowness of the area doesn't allow for any mistakes. So if you have a rental car, pick a very, very small car! SECOND ISSUE: elevator. You cannot go into the underground parking and expect to go up in the elevator. You need a key that works, and the few times that we needed to go up, the room card didn't work and we were loaded with shopping. Someone had to open the elevator door for us.
The room was spacious, clean and modern. The soaps smelled great! We did have a view of a neighbor's back yard. Re the breakfast: mostly carbs that, as a diabetic, I couldn't have, but the clerk gave us really good directions to Mel's Diner a couple of miles away which the kids really liked (parking, however, was at a premium). There is no restaurant on site.
So, if you are staying at this hotel, you will really appreciate the size and quality of the room but you will need a small car, lots of patience to pull out of this lot, and expect to eat somewhere else if you can't have carbs.

Room Tip: top floor away from street side.

Thank you for sharing your experience with fellow travelers. I apologize that you experienced some difficulties finding our hotel, we are a little under a mile from either freeway that you take to get here and we are here to serve you if you need directions anywhere, please call us. I do understand your frustration that it can be a tight squeeze to get to our underground parking garage with larger vehicles, however, it can get done and we do not charge for our parking. It is well lit, covered, and with easy access to our guest rooms. Because our elevator is only accessible by guest room keys we do have a phone on the right hand-side (in front of the elevator) that you may pick up that will call the Front Desk and we will gladly send the elevator down to get you. There are many great options for restaurants in the area, for brunch two great places I would recommend are: "Orphan Breakfast House" (cash only, quaint, limited hours, and in a residential area with plenty of parking) and "Tower Cafe" also with plenty of parking. For breakfast/lunch options we are two doors down from Sunshine Cafe (limited hours) which is also greatly recommended by our staff. We thank you for your business and hope that you will stay with us in the future.

Respectfully,

This hotel is convenient to the medical center but is also very near downtown and access to the capitol. The only reason for not giving an excellent rating is the location on a busy street and the limited parking, which is below the hotel.

Wife and I were well received by courteous staff. Rooms were very presentable and neat. Everthing you might need is there. Breakfast was typical continental style but everything was fresh and plenty available.

A good experience overall.

The Hotel Med Park is a nice hotel if you need to stay near the UC Davis Med Center. However, beware - the hotel has a new manager Amanda Allison, who is not kind or compassionate. She is, frankly, rude and demeaning to both her staff and patrons.

Hospital stays are by their nature unpredictable and of indeterminate length. We made a reservation for this hotel for 2 nights on AARP Travel Center, based on information from the hospital staff at the UC Davis Med Center. Our son was in the hospital with a traumatic brain injury. We arrived around midnight to this hotel. It is a nice hotel in a great location for visiting the hospital - no need to pay for parking while visiting the hospital, just cross the street. Upon arriving at the hospital, our son said he might be discharged the next day (one day early). The next morning at breakfast I advised the front desk attendant (a warm and friendly woman named Kayla) that we might be leaving early and asked if we could get a refund for the second night if we checked out early. She replied that we could as long as we let her know by 1pm. We were told by the hospital that our son would indeed be discharged that day. At 12;30 pm we told Kayla that we would be checking out early. She checked our reservation and told us that we would have to get our refund through Expedia, but that should not be a problem because they would only be billed for one night. She gave us a copy of the receipt to Expedia.

I called Expedia the next day - they said they would need to verify the refund with the Hotel Med Park. Kayla was off that day. They talked to the manager, Amanda Allison, who told them and us that she would not authorize the refund even though we only stayed one night. She told me that Kayla did not follow procedures and that she would have to write-her-up.

Amanda Allison not only did not stand up for her employee, who was so kind to us in this stressful time, she repeatedly told me that Kayla would be reprimanded and written up for not following procedure. Is this the kind of boss that you would want?? Not me. She told me that she was new to California and this hotel. She should not be working anywhere where people may need a sympathetic soul, because to her, the company and bottom line comes first.

We strive to offer exemplary service to our guests. We recently changed our cancellation policy from 24 hours to same day by 4:00 PM specifically with our medical guests in mind hoping to reduce worry when making and/or changing reservations with our hotel. My staff encouraged you to cancel quickly, especially because the reservation was through Expedia. There are specific terms and conditions through various travel partners we uphold and terms and conditions that you, the traveler, agree to. I hear your frustration and I am sorry for that. I do care about our guests.

Thank you for recognizing we are a good hotel regardless of the "fine print."

We stayed at the Hotel Med Park this weekend and found the experience highly satisfactory. We were given a fair price and the room we requested was reserved for us. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and offered fresh baked cookies. The room was spacious and clean, with all of the expected amenities. A continental breakfast is included and the coffee was the best I’ve had at a hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at Hotel Med Park because we have a family member at the UC Davis Medical Center. The hotel is small and has a warm intimate atmosphere that is calming and friendly. The hospital is a short walk away, virtually across the street. While the hotel diesn't have a restaurant it does have a nice continental breakfast. The hospital's cafeteria across the street is reasonably priced and has remarkably good food. The location is in midtown Sacramento so it's close to everything and has easy freeway access. We will be staying there again soon.

Mariannellewellyn, thank you much for your warm comment, we appreciate the time you took to review Hotel Med Park. We are indeed conveniently located less than a mile from I-80, US-50, and CA-99. In addition to the great cafeteria food located across the street at the hospital, we are within a 5 mile radius of over 50 great restaurants! Our staff is happy to recommend some of these great places based on your current cravings. Thank you for your business, see you soon.

I can't think of a single complaint. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Every member of the staff I encountered were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was pretty basic but complete--good coffee. I was here for an interview at UC Davis which is literally right across the street so for me it was extremely convenient. I would definitely stay here again.

Hi PBadger, many thanks for your candid review. We are glad to hear that you had a comfortable stay in our spacious rooms. The coffee during our breakfast hours is Starbucks brewed, a great way to start your day! Next time you're in a town, and with some leisure hours to spend, our staff has some great recommendations on what to do in the area.

We appreciate your business and the time you took to review us, see you next time!

Remarkably clean, friendly service, quiet. I was in town visiting Sacramento friends and wanted to stay somewhere near them, and this worked out well. One caveat, I happened to be there on a very quiet weekend, so the parking garage was relatively empty, but I can see how that would be a headache on a busy day. It's very tight.

Wifi is free and reliable, breakfast is good. Nice Bath & Bodyworks products too.

kac0351975, thank you for your warm comment. I am very proud of the service here and appreciate the time you took to acknowledge the staff. We hope the next time you are in town we will be your home away from home. Regarding parking, any traveler coming to a major downtown area has to adjust their parking approach as a part of the downtown experience. Hotel Med Park has great parking. There was no need to lap our block six times to find space, it is free, well-lit and covered! Guests can always park and pay at the UCDMC parking garage and have security shuttle them to the hotel complimentary if that is easier for them.

Thank you for your business.
