This zoo was a perfect size for our children who are ages 2, 3 and 6. It was not overwhelming in size for the children to walk around. We were able to spend the morning and early afternoon there and the children really enjoyed it. The animal exhibits are best visited in the morning when the animals are awake and it's not so hot. I have to say, there is plenty of shade there, much more than the San Diego Zoo and we were grateful for that. If you are expecting a larger variety of animals and a bigger zoo, then go to the San Diego Zoo. But we were very satisfied with what they had there, as our children are very young and they all had a good time.
The children really enjoyed the short "train ride" - it's not a real train - it's like motorized carts made to look like a train. It's best to ride that early when the line is not long. First, it should be noted that the cost is separate from the admission fee at $3.00 per person. It would be nice if they had more than one train ride. We waited 30 minutes for a 5 minute train ride. We wouldn't have waited that long but the children were willing to wait and were very excited to go on the ride. I suppose it was a good lesson for them in patience.
