“Nice Hotel, but Number #1?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

As a frequent traveler to Sacramento, I have had the good fortune to stay at a few nice properties. However, all of my usual haunts were unavailable at an acceptable rate so I booked the Larkspur for a one night stay. I had passed it on a few occasions and knew that is was located in a quiet area close to the Howe/Arden Way bustle and about five miles from downtown. I prefer suite hotels so I thought I would give it a try especially since it is rated #1 on Trip Advisor.

Check in was a breeze; Faye at the front desk was very sweet. My room on the third floor was booked as a double suite so I wasn't sure what to expect. The suite was similar to a Residence Inn with the exception that instead of a couch in the living room there was a queen bed similar to the one in the enclosed bedroom. So for a family or two individuals wanting their own beds but in separate rooms this is quite perfect without the dread of the pullout sofa. Definitely a plus!

The suite also had a kitchen area with full refrigerator, microwave and sink. Bathroom was good size and very clean.

Two downsides of note. As other reviewers have noted, the walls are fairly thin. I clearly heard individuals walking around above me and muted conversations in the room next door.

Second, as a business traveler one of the first things I do when I wake up is turn on CNBC and check the stock market. I know that many of my colleagues do the same. While the channel selections include four Showtime Channels, I would trade them all for CNBC.

Breakfast was adequate; nothing special; nothing hot. Instant oatmeal, cereal, breads and rather good waffles that you placed in the toaster. Coffee was in small take away cups only; some mugs would be nice.

Free internet and free parking also definitely pluses.

In the future, I would probably stay here again, but only if my preferred properties (see other reviews) were unavailable.

Cheers!

I stayed here for work for 2 weeks, and am not sure why this hotel is ranked #1 in Sacramento? Granted, it's convenient with its free laundry (you have to pay for detergent though), but the rooms are generic, the kitchens are not up to par for what I consider long term hotel stays, and the staff is well, not very helpful. I wanted pizza one night and between 3 staff members, I couldn't get a good recommendation or any phone numbers. I suppose the price is right if you're budget conscious, but if you're willing to spend a few extra bucks, stay at the Hyatt Regency!!

Also, remember to get a third floor room - the floors and walls in this place are like cardboard!!

Room Tip: Get a third floor room!!

My husband I stayed here for 9 nights. They upgraded last 3 nights to an executive room. They were actually willing to upgrade all 9 nights but on the wednesday, for thanksgiving, all other rooms were booked so we kept the original studio room for the first 6 nights. The executive one bedroom room was super nice and the bed was super comfortable...much better than the studio room.
The breakfast was okay....the usual muffins, cereal, bagles etc. The fresh cookies in the afternoon were an added bonus.

At checkout, the attendant was charging us $100 more than expected but luckily I took the original booking print out and she adjusted it.
Overall, great experience at this hotel, the staff is super friendly and its very clean.

Room Tip: Executive rooms on the 4th floor are the best

I chose this hotel because it takes dogs and is close to campus, but it has so much more to recommend it. First of all, the staff is friendly and helpful. Our king bed suite was spacious and well appointed, from the nicely outfitted kitchen, to the comfortable sitting area and separate bedroom. It seemed as though every detail had been well thought out. We were only there for two nights, but a person could happily stay there for much longer!

Clean rooms, comfy beds, friendly helpful staff, rooms had fridge, stove, flat screen tv, docking station for iphone/itouch for music, great water pressure, close to just about everything in sacramento worth seeing, 24 hour security overseeing parking lot, if your looking a clean safe comfy place to stay while in sac with reasonable rates, this one fits the bill, forgot to mention gym with free weights and jacuzzi. All room include free breakfast.

Room Tip: Choose ground floor near desk, little noisy but closer to gym and jacuzzi.

Although it is a small chain, this was our first experience with it. What a delightful time: fresh cookies, friendly welcoming staff, large comfortable rooms (most, maybe all, are suites with full kitchen), and good location (although a bit hard to find). The complementary breakfast was good, better than a Best Western, but not as good as a Staybridge Suite, for example (no hot foods). The orange juice kept falling out of the refrigerator when people took a bottle, and all the cereals were sugar (except for oatmeal). Good wi-fi and also free. We'll return again when we are in Sacramento.

Room Tip: Don't know that there is a bad room. We were above the pool, and since we like fresh air, we ope...

I was anxious to stay here since it is the closest hotel to my daughter's new place in Sac. It is a very nice, clean hotel in a good area and the price for our suite was fair. If you want good quality, a nice staff at a fair price this is the place for you
