I'm not a germophobe, but I do like things clean. I can overlook a lot of things that really fussy people tend to freak out about (e.g., a hair in the bed or shower, a small dirty spot on the carpet). But I was having a hard time at this Days Inn.
I can tell that they've put money into the facilities. The paint is fresh. They did updates in the bathroom with granite, but I wonder if it didn't quite turn out as hoped (the tissue holders with 3 inches of rough particle board behind the granite made it challenging to get tissue out of there without getting my fingers scratched. The carpet in the room seemed newer. The furniture seemed new. The AC/heat unit seemed newer (it goes on and off, instead of a fan constantly running while the heat/compressor go on and off.) The curtains were nice. The location is convenient.
But...
When I moved the night stand to look for an outlet, my fingers immediately made contact with stickiness. At least the gum previous patrons had put there was removed.
There was a good bit of used toothpaste splattered on the shower curtain...and a small splash of coffee as well...and it was a little slimy feeling on the inside.
The bed frame has stains on it...most I assume were from body fluids. (As a former nurse taught to treat all body fluids as though they carry serious diseases, this was what made it hard to ignore the germ factor.)
The bed linens were very thin, had multiple small holes in them (not from cigarette burns), one area had a cut in it, and were covered with various types of stains. Some stains looked like partial shoe prints. Others looked like old mold that didn't get washed out. There was a fresh, untreated blood stain on the mattress cover under the sheet on my husband's side of the bed and my side had another sort of body fluid stain going on. The top of the first sheet we slept on had a small old blood stain at the top of the sheet. It was bad enough seeing so many stains on the sheets and bed frame, but the fresh ones were not acceptable at all.
I realize it's costly to keep up a hotel and to pay housekeeping staff. I also realize the housekeeping staff probably deal with lots of nasty messes for minimal pay and probably do not get enough appreciation...but what's up with the bed linens?! The bed linen situation is inexcusable.
When I booked this room, I thought this hotel was a nearby hotel that we'd stayed at a year earlier and were happy at (better breakfast, same rates, less of a smoky smell, and better linens). We won't stay here again.
