Well, I don't know what everyone is raving about, unless as a Hilton VIP member I simply got the worst room in the hotel.... It's a standard Homewood Suites, so given my first experience with Homewood last month, I expected the same this month. Boy was I wrong.
I arrived around 11 pm after flying for 8 hours, and I was on Eastern Time (2 a.m.), so I was pretty tired. Check in was quick, although not particularly welcoming, but (free) parking was limited, and after going into the building around back at the entrance closest to my car, I ended up dragging two large suitcases nearly all the way around the building to get to my room. Ok, my bad parking choice, but it went downhill from there.
When I walked in, the room was stiffling hot. The thermostat read 82, and the A/C had been turned off. Really? In that heat, when they knew a guest was arriving, you turn off the A/C?! It took several hours for the room to cool down to a decent sleeping temperature, which brought me to about 1 a.m. (or 4 a.m. my time). That's when I encountered the bed.
Rarely do I wake up MORE tired than when I went to bed, but that's what happened in this place -- because the bed was a joke. The sheets on the king bed were so small they couldn't even be tucked in because they didn't reach over the edges of the mattress. Personally I like my sheets tucked in when I sleep, so that was a big strike right there. But then I got into the bed...and basically fell into the rather large sink hole of a mattress. At that point I was bloomin' exhausted and cranky, and wasn't in the mood to call the desk and ask for a new room and move all of my stuff. Although, I had earlier asked for a delayed checkout, and was told I could have only one single hour before I would be charged an additional half-day's rate, so I wasn't really expecting much sympathy from the front desk. So I tried to make the best of it. Of course, there was no "do not disturb" sign anywhere to be found, so I wrote my own and stuck it on the handle outside, then barricaded the door in the hopes of being able to sleep in without disturbance. A futile effort, since I barely slept at all (and unlike the prior Homewood I stayed at, this one had no mechanisms to prevent the doors from loudly slamming shut). All in all, a lousy end to a business trip and awful beginning to a vacation. Never again.
(Yes, there's free internet and parking and spacious rooms, so I would give them 3 stars, but hotels are essentially for sleeping, and if you can't do that comfortably, then no amount of hotel perks can overcome that critical failure.)

We are sorry we were not able to provide you with the quality of services and amenities you deserve. Because business travel is very important, we try hard to make sure all our guests have a rewarding experience at Homewood Suites. I will be reaching out to you in order to make this right.
