“Best Hotel Stay in Sacramento”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2014

The folks at this hotel go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. The rooms are great, right down to the littlest detail. They have a great restaurant and bar, the La Grange, and being right downtown means you can get out and walk to many other fine restaurants in the area.

Room Tip: I prefer the rooms with windows opening onto the park on J Street.

I thought this hotel was great. It was atmospheric, funky and with humorous political references in the decor. The room was small, but perfectly formed - immaculately clean and with a nice big shower and a comfortable bed. Staff were attentive and professional. The rate we got included wifi and a $50 dining credit which we spent on a wonderful dinner at the hotel's restaurant, Grange. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed our stay here the staff was so well organized when we checked in... Very well trained... It was a Saturday night so there were some parties going on but the rooms were equipped with ear plugs which was a nice touch.. Only complaint wasn't the hotel it was the next building had some pretty offensive graffiti... But the blackout curtains were great.

My room was looking great. The staff is very polite. But, I had no idea why they are providing ear plugs to each and every guest of this hotel. I found out later what is the reason. Being placed near a college and into an area with intense night life, this hotel is not suited for regular accommodations. I do admit that, during week days, the noise is not very loud.

We stayed at this hotel because our friends recently got married in the hotel. The location was perfect. Easily accessible via public transportation (two block walk from airport bus to downtown) and a short walk to the capital and plenty of restaurants/bars. Rooms & bathrooms were immaculate, comfy beds/pillows, great decor, friendly/helpful staff. The wedding and multiple reception parties were held in the hotel and all locations had great service and friendly staff. Overall a great experience. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, you might not want a room facing the street. There are beepers for the...

Everything was perfect for our stay at the Citizen. We have stayed their several times and will be back! All the staff we encountered were fantastic, the room was large, very detailed and a delight to stay in.

Growing up in Sacramento this was just another half empty, run down old building. It has been transformed into a very elegant hotel with great service. I had a standard room and it was very nice, with amenities like a bathrobe and down duvet. Service was very good and attentive. My only disappointment was that I was too busy to enjoy a cocktail in the lounge or a meal. Next time! Highly recommended.

I see a few comments about the noise level, but it's downtown -- what do you expect? No worse than other large city hotels.
