If you are a train buff, be sure to visit this museum. It's an incredible piece of California history, with several beautiful examples of locomotives from the 19th Century, as well as Pullman cars and much more. Volunteers were available, stationed as engineers in some of the locomotives, including a unique cab-forward locomotive that was designed to go through tunnels without the smoke suffocating the crew. That locomotive alone was worth the price of a ticket! The 2nd floor has some hands-on activities and exhibits for children. My toddlers loved it! If I still lived in Sacramento, I would take them every week.
