My wife & I stopped in at Frog's Leap in early May 2013 for a 10:00am tasting, not sure what to expect. Their website was fun and cute and they advertised loudly how they're organic and a small operation. I was excited to come to their place and try it myself. And I was not disappointed.
Upon walking into the building we were greeted by a nice young girl who asked if we had been helped. When we told them we were here for our tasting she ushered us over to a young man (I think his name was Kevin), who greeted us and told us he would set up a table for us. It was pretty chilly outside but being from Chicago, 50 degree temps isn't that bad. But still Kevin went outside ahead of us and turned on the heat lamps on the porch to keep us warm. There were 4 glasses for us (each) and a small pitcher of water and a water glass (each) at the table, along with menus of what we were tasting and information on the winery and their club.
Kevin poured our four wines. I believe we had the Chardonnay, Red Zinfandel, and two different Cabernets. All of the wines were tasty and we enjoyed our quiet little area overlooking their ground, taking in the heat from the lamps and the cool breeze at the same time. Honestly we were in a very happy place. Kevin came out a little later and told us that the groundskeepers were going to be doing some power-raking and said it would get quite loud and would be willing to move us inside if it would bother us.
THAT, is the kind of extra little service that helps separate good staff / service from great ones. He made sure he told us before anything started and instead of just apologizing, offered to move us indoors to avoid the noise. While we declined his offer we were so very pleased to have been asked... particularly BEFORE the power raking started.
We ended up walking out with a bottle of Rose, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay. The tasting was inexpensive ($10 each I think?) and the wines themselves are also of a moderate price and still very good. Frog's Leap has definitely entered our shopping list and we will continue to purchase their product in the future.
Be sure to stop here and give this wonderful little gem a chance.
