Having enjoyed Cakebread wines for years we knew we'd be in for a treat when we finally had the opportunity to tour and taste. This is a beautiful spacious winery with plenty of room to spread their tasting groups out rather than clumping everyone in a tiny room. Meticulous, clean and well organized the friendly staff do everything to make their guests feel like they are in someone's home. Our limo driver easily found a shaded area for our vehicle and there was plenty of space at the entrance (more of a promenade) so guests never felt bunched up. We loved being able to help ourselves to freshly picked grapes and the free corks for the taking were a definite plus for our friend who makes craft wine cork boards. Our group of 8's private tasting was outdoors in an area near a gorgeous fish pond that could have used a little more shade (it was sunny and low 90's) but the wines were chilled in a cooler. The pours were generous and our flight of 5 wines was perfect. We learned about the culinary activities at Cakebread and realized that it is a destination for much more than sipping wine. Yes, the have a spectacular gift shop for those that must have the latest apron, cookbook or hat. Items are reasonably priced and the staff are generous with gift bags for each item you purchase. Cakebread really does have a wine for every palate and price point. A must see on the wine trail!
