“Great value, perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

We picked this hotel due to location price and average online reviews. It was a great choice for us. A little bit older and nothing fancy but very clean, great service and a perch location. Out room had a fireplace and sitting area. We were walking distance to a couple of restaurants We will stay here again

Room Tip: Pick a room with a fireplace

Our stay was during the week that many wineries were harvesting thier Cabernets. The Inn had a perfect location for great wineries (Silver Oaks, Round Pound, Honig, BV, and countless others). The winery next door (BV) was pressing grapes during our stay, the magnificent aroma of fresh grapes was in the air at all times. Rancho Caymus has a small inn charm, the rooms are comfortable and spacious. A rustic decor in the rooms and grounds gives the Inn a Napa Valley feel. The continental breakfast was just that, nothing special we expected better for the price. The service at the front desk (Young Lady) was very helpful and knowledgable. The true value of the Inn is its location, truly the middle of Napa Valley 10 minutes from any Restaurant or major winery.

Room Tip: Room 209 excellent corner room with views to the winery next door.

Stay during the off season. We stayed in February and got a great deal, we would not have paid during peak or near peak time.

We loved the courtyard's charm. The free breakfast offering felt like we were in a very basic hotel. Our room was on the first floor and had a lovely fireplace that we used each nice, however the small patio we had was all but useless. The room itself was very nice, we had extra firewood but the bathroom was dark. It was clean but just dark.

The absolute best part of staying at Rancho Caymus Inn is the small Mexican grocery store across the street. In there you can find the best tacos in the area and possibly all of California. Incredible tacos and they each cost less than $2.

We would stay again but only during non peak seasons. The location is perfect, you are not going to get slammed with too much traffic and can sneak out the back of Napa if you want.

Friends of friends recommended the Rancho Caymus Inn for its location. Since this was our first trip to Napa we went with the recommendation.
Pros: location - we were right in the middle of Napa Valley, which made it convenient and relatively quick to travel in any direction for wineries, shopping and restaurants.
Outside appearance - rustic charm as others have stated

Cons: cleanliness/desperate need of updating - the room/bathroom is from 1970s or so it looks. The carpet in the bedroom was heavily worn and stained. The bathroom had multiple spider webs with spiders hanging along the mirror and in the shower. The shower had black mold throughout the grout and on the ceiling.

Bottom line: if location is your goal, this is the place for you. With that said, I will not stay here again nor will I recommend it to my family and friends. I'd rather stay somewhere else and pay $50 more for something cleaner.

My husband and I were able to tag a last minute trip to Napa onto a wedding weekend. We knew we wanted to eat at Cook in St Helena, taste some wines and not have to drive too far for dinner. Its easy to spend around $400 a night on a Monday in Napa to just sleep. The Rancho Caymus Inn is located right behind BV's tasting room and across the street from the Elizabeth Spenser tasting room and not far from the Quintessa Winery(BE SURE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR QUINTESSA!).
Like the name implies its a southwest style little hotel built around a courtyard with a little fountain, rooms are generous and have sofas with a pull-out bed, there is an adobe style fireplace, kitchenette and bathroom. Make no mistake, this is not a romantic wine country resort, its a clean, cute, older hotel. It is also a great value for the space and location. If you are looking for a comfortable, clean, pleasant place that is close to everything this is it.

We stayed here for 2 nights in September. Nice building with a Spanish feel, and all rooms off a very leafy courtyard. I phoned ahead and asked to make sure we got a 2nd floor room due to the comments about noise on the ground floor that I had read on other Trip Advisor reviews. We were very kindly upgraded to a large corner suite which was really lovely - lots of space with table and chairs, kitchenette, fireplace and very large cosy bed. Plus a small balcony which we sat on enjoying a wine & cheese plate both nights. The room seemed very dark even with all the lights on and windows open, but was generally really lovely. We found the hotel to be very quiet and got a great night’s sleep, although it was mid-week so probably much quieter than the weekend.
We ate at the hotel restaurant (Alex's) one night which was outstanding - the best meal we had on our entire 2 week holiday - lovely service/people, and food that was like little works of art on our plate! Our 2nd night we ate at the Rutherford Grill - have to admit I had been a little put off by the TV's dotted around the restaurant - felt a little bit like a sports bar i.e. out of place in the Napa Valley. However the food was excellent (even for a non-meat eater), service great, and they let us open our own wines for free which was a bonus.
The hotel is in a nice location, just up the road from Rutherford Hill and Inglenook wineries, but with only 2 restaurants and a dusty old Mexican market/shop in walking distance you would have to drive or get a taxi to most places. (Note: The Mexican shop is not great – I bought a chocolate bar that had melted and rehardened - gross - and there were lots of items that looked well past their sell-by dates).
All in all the hotel was great, it has a lovely rustic charm and feels more in keeping with the surroundings than many of the other, more modern hotels of the Napa Valley. We would definitely stay here again if we came back to Napa.

Room Tip: 2nd floor corner suite very dark, but spacious, lovely and quiet

I'm so glad to hear of your wonderful visit with us (less that chocolate bar) and we look forward to your next visit. Next time do try the amazing food at the market, so many of our guests love it.

We only stayed one night but felt that the Inn was well worth the money considering that within the Napa valley area, one would pay on average $450 plus for a generic hotel room. What Rancho Caymus has that the others don't is old California-style, rustic charm, including an in-room, wood burning fireplace in every room and terra cotta tiles. While Rancho Caymus is not your typical Ritz Carleton, you'll find that you will be pleasantly surprised. We would definitely come back.
