“Great Gardens!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

These gardens are fascinating. They have different "continents". Southwest America/Central America, Pacific Northwest, Australia, Herb Garden, East Coast, South Africa, and a Rose Garden. Admission is free but donations are accepted. Where else can you get cactus, Redwood Trees, herbs and Maple in the same place?

“I wish it was better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

I enjoy visiting public garden, especially those with Southern California native plants. As such, I had high hopes for the Riverside Botanic Gardens. Sadly I was let down. The good is that the garden is easily accessible on the UC Riverside campus. There is a very nice map of the grounds available on their website (this is a must to take with you in advance). The fee is very affordable ($4 suggested donation). The gardens are all well marked with signs by each plants (I very much appreciated this as not all gardens provide this type of information). My disappointments were the landscape design (rather haphazard and sparse in many areas). The pathways, while visible, are not marked at all so you are not at all certain in which direction to head or where you are. The overall variety of plants is fairly limited and I felt not well curated.

There are many other botanic gardens in Southern California, including the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden in nearby Claremont, which I recommend over the Riverside gardens.

“Worth supporting and saving”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

A botanical surpise open to the public tucked away on the UCR campus and a bit of a secret. Needs to be better publicised to the general public: local PBS &/or NPR, maybe. Local chatty T.V. channels (example, the cheerful bunch on Channel 5 morning news), etc. Lovely, meditative walking trails, water features. Lectures and special events throughout the year highlighting the local flora & fauna.

“Riverside Bontanic Gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

Just beautiful. We were staying in the area so decided to take in the gardens and we were not disopointed. We spent a lovely day having lunch in the sunshine. I am not sure if children would apprecitate it so you might want to think that over before going. Admission is $4.00 and it does have wheelchair access. Open from 8-5 daily.
