“Beautiful setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2012

My top pick for a picnic every mother's day! Go there other occasions or just to walk the gardens and enjoy the serenity. Beautiful sections from cactus, floral, roses, herb garden, trees to pond with frogs!! Easy hiking, or travel on easy trails that meander thru the gardens with one area of moderate elevation climb.

“Peaceful and beautiful gardens off the beaten path”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2012

If you're looking for someplace safe and pleasant for walking in Riverside, try the UC Botanic Gardens. It's tucked away in a corner of the campus, but the website has good directions and you can follow the signs on campus. The grounds are beautiful, and they have an impressive collection of cacti and succulents. At other seasons there are roses and a butterfly garden to see. Bring your binoculars for birding, or just pick a bench and enjoy the peace. There is no entrance fee, but a $4 donation is requested. There is a parking lot, but bring quarters for the pay box (just $.25 per hour).
