“Abba Mania brings back memories...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

This theater is over-the-top---an incredible restoration for astounding property--returning it to the glory days of its origin only with a modernized stage and sound system equipped for a full Broadway show. Just watched this incredible show which made me relive memories from the 70's in vivid detail. From London's West End to Riverside...just a block from the Mission Inn Hotel! So glad I didn't miss this.

“Another reason to visit Riverside!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

Recently attended a Boz Scaggs concert at the Fox. I was happy to see this beautiful building was preserved and renovated. We had seen its' sad state on previous visits to Mission Inn. So glad the city realized it is a treasure . The interior has an intricate, painted ceiling and what must be original, metal fold-down seats. The seats do get a bit uncomfortable after awhile- glad we could stand up every now and then during concert. Have to agree with the comment about the over-zealous ushers and not allowing non-flash photos. Half expected to get my phone confiscated!! Saw this happen to many people! Sorry, realize you are volunteer ushers but lighten up. (Actually, seemed to be the same over-zealous lady who swooped in on everyone.) The Fox has added many items to its' schedule which is great. Didn't check out the wine bar so I didn't see that tee-shirts/CDs available for purchase :( There is a parking structure available and city just added a pedestrian crossing light at the end of block. Ticket purchasing a bit antiquated: phone orders or walk-up ticketbox for some presale. There must be one (?) person handling the phone because there is no "waiting" on hold. You get a message and need to hang up and keep calling until you get lucky. They now offer ticketing through Ticketmaster. Riverside, like every city, has a homeless population that frequents the downtown area. One guy was making comments to "all the rich people enjoying the concert" as patrons walked down the sidewalk. Unfortunate. Hope to see the Fox continue to provide entertainment.

“A PALACE OF DREAMS IN THE INLAND EMPIRE!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

During a recent stay at the Mission Inn, we attended a screening of "I Confess", an Alfred Hitchcock movie from the late 40's, at the Fox Performing Arts Center. The Fox Theater, once part of the Fox theater chain, was built in 1929 and is a registered landmark. It follows the Mission-style architecture popular in Riverside a la the Mission Inn itself and appears to be largely original in appearance. Although on this particular night (part of a Hitchcock retrospective) the theater had reverted to its former life as a movie theater, the Center also has a full schedule of live performance by a variety of artists. The Fox is a true "Palace of Dreams", as the great movie theaters of the 20's and 30's have been described! Anyone visiting Riverside or staying at the Mission Inn (a mere two blocks away by walking) should definitely attend a performance at the Fox, if your schedule permits.

“Dark Star Orchestra concert”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

This venue was awesome. Small enough to really get to hear the orchestra but large enough to dance in the aisles. Good security all around and a little bar area for intermission alcohol.
