“Europe in Los Angeles!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

A few weeks ago my husband and I booked a room at this hotel so we could walk to a concert that was down the street. This hotel is like walking back in time and you feel like you're in Europe! It was such an interesting piece of history and architecture for Southern California, that we can't wait to go back. The service was great, and the restaurants and room service were delicious. When we got back from the concert the kitchen had just closed, as we knew this would happen we ran to the front desk from the concert to see if they could help us. They called the kitchen and asked them if they would cook for us and they said yes, so we hurried to our room and had amazing room service. The tour of the property looks really great, we didn't do the tour. Instead we had a really wonderful concierge give us the basics and then she showed us some of the unique rooms the hotel has to offer. We look forward to going to the festival of lights there!

Room Tip: You should ask for a room that has a view of the courtyard, not out facing. They are booked on squa...

I made reservations and was told the room with a balcony is more, so I paid the extra money. When i arrived they notified me that they can request a balcony but its not a guarantee. What good is a reservation if you have the same chance as walking in? Rude employees made the trip worse. I would not go back even though the place is nice in appearance.

Room Tip: location is not ideal, you are close to homeless people as you drive up to a nice looking hotel...we...

I felt like I was in Europe! The building is beautiful,so much history, the decor is so elegent. We were here in November so it was decorated with so many pumpkins!!!

I really felt like I was out of the city, so relaxing.

I am excited to book a room and get treated at the spa! I wanna come here again and again and again! : )

I have stayed here three times. It's like stepping back in time. Great hotel with the old look with modern facilities. The staff were great, the rooms were good with lots of shops surrounding the hotel.

Attended a wedding and stayed one night. The wedding and reception was beautiful. The room was big but the bathroom had no counter space to put your make-up. It was a sleepless night. The walls and windows are thin. We heard people running up and down the stairs, people on the street partying and cars screeching until at least 3 a.m. We should have stayed at the Marriots like some of the other guests to get a good night sleep and it's less expensive.

Here I am at 130a writing a review in the room. The party at the nightclubs across the street continues unabated. Loud music. Single pane windows. Driving beat. No way to sleep.

We arrived with a prepaid package. Had to wait an hour past check-in time to get our room. Excuse was they were busy. Ok. Do we get a refund for having to wait an hour that we can't be in our room. Check in itself was abysmal. Clerk speaks to us, gets a call, takes it then has to start again because they forgot where they were.

Many of the grand public spaces were closed for private parties. So much for looking around.

Then Duane's max expensive steakhouse screwed up 2 steak orders and then miscooked both again the second time. Really? It's a steakhouse, you have never heard of medium rare?

They claim to be 4 star 4 diamond. Not a chance.

Stayed one night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Booked a package which included cupcakes & brunch. Was able to check-in early, room was in great condition considering it's age, was small but cozy with a balcony & pool view. Took a tour (the docent was average at best) & got to see areas we would not get to see otherwise. Had cocktails at the Presidential Lounge where they free pour drinks. Ate prime rib dinner buffet on the patio at the Mission Inn restaurant and it was delicious. Took a late night jacuzzi (had hot water & strong jets, stays open till 11p) & dip in the pool. Slept like a baby in the most comfortable bed & bedding. Appreciate their standard check-out is 12p as it was a treat to sleep in. The Casey's cupcakes were super sweet & one was stale...awful. Ate brunch buffet on the patio again which was even better then the night before. Loved the architecture, art, history & gardens. Plus, the service was excellent. Felt like we went far, far away. Will definately be back when we want a relaxing getaway that won't break the bank close to home. Antiques across the street also has great values. Had a great time!!!
