“I would quite like to live here..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2012

Second visit and just as good as the first. The staff are friendly and smiley always eager to help. One member of the bell desk spent nearly an hour trying to help me check in online, without success, (due to the airline not her). Have only seen rooms on the first floor which are all different in layout, but all have very comfortable beds and pillows so comfy they are worth trying to stuff into your luggage. I didn't. It's a unique hotel, quirky and interesting just to walk round. The ONLY place to stay in this area! Luxury at a reasonable price!

Room Tip: 134 is above the bar so could be noisy.

Great hotel/ kids loved the pool. The staff was very professional and great with my family and kids. They all had great smiles and always asking if we needed anything else.
Very accomadating. I would highly recommend The mission Hotel.

We stayed for three nights. The hotel is wonderfully quirky. You can roam the property and just marvel at it for hour and hours. It has chapels, courtyards, lovely outdoor dining, parapets, wonderful public areas throughout the hotel. We heard there are 26 different elevations of floors in the hotel, and that is easy to believe. The evening lights are magical. Just a very different place. Also, downtown Riverside around the Mission Inn has really spruced up since we were here several years ago. Some really nice places and feel.

If you appreciate beautiful old buildings with lots of character, stay at the Mission Inn. There will be no similar U.S. buildings constructed in the future like this lovely Spanish colonial "castle". Our room on "Author's Row" was huge, atmospheric, quiet and very comfortable. We couldn't help but spend time after dinner exploring the winding halls, hidden courtyards and gardens above the street level. As for dining, the service and atmosphere in the courtyard at the Mission Inn Restaurant were very good. However, I would not recommend the seafood buffet offered on Fridays, but as we live in Seattle, perhaps we are spoiled by the quality of the seafood we can get with little effort. Breakfast was just fine at the "Mission Inn Restaurant". There are other restaurant choices that we did not experience, and so I cannot comment on them. We hope to stay here again in the future, and see other parts of the building that we missed this time.

We stayed a couple of nights at this hotel to attend a wedding there. We were pleasantly surprised! The place is gorgeous and the service was fabulous! We understand the hotel is beautifully decorated for the holidays and plan to return. Great little area of downtown to explore too!

I enjoyed the room it was clean and comfortable. It had a lot of wonderful art history. The decor of the hotel was pleasant. I didn't like the sheets, it wasn't as comfortable as I would thought it would be compare to Hampton or Holiday Inn where I normally stay. The service wasn't as accessible as I would want it to be. The ice machine was not working in our level, and I had to walk 100 feet to it. Then when I got there it wasn't working. I had to go up to the next floor to see whether it had an ice machine working, when I got there it smelled awful. It would have been nice to be informed when something is down to not inconvenience the customers, especially in the middle of the morning.

Sometimes you come across a hotel property that is so unique, so special and interesting that there's really no point in reviewing it here on TripAdvisor: my advice, just go. If you're going to be in Riverside CA, then you've simply got to experience this place - there's nothing like it anywhere. What started as a small local inn during the late 1800's grew by the late 1930's into one of America's most anachronistic and historic hotels. Most of the architectural style is what I would call "rococo Mission," way over the top in some ways, but creative and built by master designers and craftsmen. It's filled with old wooden beams, tight winding corridors and special architectural styling that delight the eye. The room we stayed in overlooking the pool had a high ceiling and marble throughout the bathroom, plus some hand-painted Spanish tile on the bathroom floor. All of the furnishings and amenities are first rate. The staff are very attentive, friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a fabulous lunch on the patio and then on Sunday morning truly the best champagne buffet brunch I've ever had (and I've had a lot). We didn't try the spa but we're guessing it's exceptional (and very expensive, but what the heck, you don't come here to save money.). This place is special; take the tour; stay a night or two, it's well worth a visit. The kind of hotel every traveler should experience at least once in a lifetime. Be careful on weekends, the place is packed with weddings, parties, you name it. For a 230 room hotel, it's busy!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a third or fourth floor room.
