“Coolest Hotel Ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2012

Because of its eclectic design and the artifacts the owner collected, this hotel is simply the coolest we’ve ever stayed in. We scored a great rate from Expedia which made our stay even more of a treat. Our deluxe king room in the Mission wing room was very clean and well-appointed with large casement windows, a great bed, a big screen TV etc. We faced the street with a view of the cathedral. More expensive rooms face the inner courtyards with prices rising with the floor numbers.

After sangrias and Calamari at the Mexican café we wandered around the hotel for over an hour checking out the spectacular views and antiques the hotel is justly famous for. We did exactly the same thing the next morning minus the food. We checked out the on-site restaurants, and then had dinner at the Mexican restaurant to keep within our budget. The food was tasty and the service and atmosphere pleasant. The giant margarita was a real treat and reasonably priced too.

Parking is a touch confusing (at least it was for us). If you are using self-parking @ 8$, drive around to the opposite side of the hotel, park your car, then trundle your luggage from the parkade to the street, turn left and follow around the hotel until you come to the first entrance.

At Christmas the hotel is fully booked and crowds of visitors come to see the lights. After New Year’s the place returns to normal and the decorations start to come down on Jan. 8th. The reviews with complaints seem to correspond with the Christmas season.

We really enjoyed staying at the Mission Inn, and we’ll definitely be back.

Room Tip: Odd numbered room face the street.

Stayed here for a week during a business trip. Checked in the last night of the Festival of Lights. The hotel is beautiful and the light display was amazing! The room I had was nice with a balcony that overlooked the street (wanted a view of the inner courtyard but none were available). The food, including room service, was delicious as were the cupcakes from Casey's. Only complaint was that there was no Wi-Fi service in the rooms. Had to connect with an ethernet cable on the desk and cost was $10/24 hours. I think all hotels should offer free Wi-Fi...Other than that, a very nice hotel.

This is a beautiful property, oozing with charm, that has been successfully updated and brought into the 21st century with great bathrooms, wonderful food and outstanding service. One caveat, no matter where you stay you are going to hear the train! But if you are going to Riverside, this is the only place you want to stay!

After arriving at the hotel, we got a room, that was not we had reserved. Do check, that you get the room you reserved. You really should not, but this is the kind of place you have to. The Glenwood rooms are really beutiful. The staff is not really up to the standard of the place. However, the place is a gem and an unique experience. Next door, Simple Simon's is the place for the breakfast.

Room Tip: The Glenwood rooms.

First off, my wife and I stayed at the Mission Inn in early December. We had to cut our trip short, because my wife became ill (no fault of the hotel). Anyway, the hotel owed us another day. When we explained why we left early the first trip, the hotel not only booked our second day, but gave us another day free. They also upgraded our room to the Presidential suite. Our stay at the Mission Inn was nothing less then AWESOME. We had dinner at Duane's, where I ate the best steak I have ever had. Every staff member we encountered was extremely nice and professional. I'll post pictures of our room, it was amazing. I can not stress enough that if you are going to be in the area, stay at the Mission Inn, you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: If you can stay in 417 (suite) do it. We have stayed in 413 and seen 418. The rooms are large and fu...

The hotel honored our hotel.com price which ended up being a huge mistake for us! They sure treated us like second class citizens because we paid for the "cheaper priced" room. My husband and I were there for our 17th wedding anniversary and really wanted to have a nice quiet night. The room that was given to us was right above the restaurant and valet parking section of the hotel which meant we had a very noisy room. We called down to the front desk and were told that there were no other rooms available. I asked if they had a fan to help off set the outside noise. They had no fan. Our bath tub had dirt and paint chips in it. We ended up leaving the hotel around midnight. Just wasn't what we had in mind. I felt as though the hotel manager didn't seem to really care maybe it was because we didn't pay full price for our room? Maybe in their eyes you get what you pay for? At least that's what it felt like. I won't be going back to the Mission Inn.

My husband and I stayed at the Mission Inn in Riverside twice during The Festival of Lights. The first time, we were wowed by the spectacle of the light display and charmed by the horse -drawn Cinderella carriages that circle the perimeter. We also enjoyed the hour-long docent tour of the hotel. Our guide has been volunteering once a week for twenty-five years, so she enhanced the history by sharing many humorous and fascinating anecdotes. We returned three weeks later to attend the Dickens Fest held at the Riverside Convention Center nearby. The hotel was the perfect place to relax during all of the Victorian activities. Las Campanas patio restaurant is lovely and serves excellent Mexican food. Duane's bar provides well-made mixed drinks and has an impressive wine list, as well as some very tasty hors' doeuvres. Both of our rooms were comfortable and charming with much attention to detail in the decor and architecture. We will definitely return.
