“2 long blocks from the pier”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

close enough to the pier and activities, price is very good, and its reasonably clean and very spacious. Windows could open to fresh breezes. and we had to do this because we forgot to ask for a nonsmoking room. The personnel were very welcoming and helpful, and breakfast decent for a budget place. It's not luxury but I'd stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for smoking or nonsmoking

“A reasonable motel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

Although this motel isn't far from the beach it isn't as close as we thought it would be, about 15 mins walk. There is a small swimming pool but only one bed which was broken and a chair. The room was clean with a fridge, microwave and tea/coffee making. Not a lot of breakfast just a cake but worth a stay if in the area

“Awesome location!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2012

Stayed for one night whilst on a weekend road trip.

Overall, this hotel is functional and provides the basics. If you've just driven a long way, you'll be fine to crash out here for the night.

We never tried the breakfast, but my colleague took a look and wasn't too impressed.

I did book a room with a balcony, but didn't get one in the end. I'm not sure whether it was the hotel that got the booking wrong, or the website I used to make the booking. Either way, no big deal.

The main reason for staying here is the LOCATION.

You are a very short walk from the pier. If you like fresh seafood you're in for a treat - there is plenty of live lobster available! The ambience on the pier at night is wonderfully relaxed, several restaurants to choose from, and lots of people just walking around enjoying the cool sea breeze.

If it's a beer you're after, then on the lower level of the pier, there is Naja's Place, with a huge variety of draft beer available from all over the world. There was a live band on when we visited (Saturday night) - great atmosphere!

For something a little spicy, we went about a block away from the hotel to an Indian restaurant called Addis Tandoor. Huge portions and excellent quality - highly recommended.

Anyway, back to the hotel review.

We found the staff to be polite and the rooms clean and functional. The furniture looked a little worn out, but I've stayed in worse places than this. The fridge and microwave in the room could be handy if you're staying longer, although I ended up uplugging my fridge because it was a little noisy.

The bathroom is pretty basic, but clean. There were plenty of clean towels, and the small bottles of shampoo and soap were a nice, unexpected touch. The shower delivered lots of hot water, unlike some hotels I've stayed in.

Internet was free and worked fine - I didn't experience any speed issues or disconnections like another reviewer mentioned, but then I was closer to the hotel reception area, where I think the wireless access point must be located.

OK, this hotel isn't anything like one from the usual motel chains, but that's what makes it memorable.

Would I stay here again? Yes - definitely.

“It is nice enough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2012

It does not look like much and parking is a pinch, but I stayed with my 2 children for one week and it was good enough. The rooms are large, never heard anyone next door, beds and pillows are not the best, so be tired and you will be fine, the bath towels are cheap. Pool and jacuzzi is very small, private, and freezing cold. On two different days I saw 1 prostitute (diff. girl, at pool and outside room). Breakfast is just good enough - packaged pastry, fresh fruit (2 types), low-grade coffee, juice, instant oatmeal. no coffee maker in the room, micro and fridge in large room. Internet is NOT high-speed, it kicks you off when using internet on your own computer every 30 seconds to 1 minute - totally useless. There is 1 old computer in the lobby, speed is so slow that it is useless. Starbucks is just north of the hotel - use internet there. The rooms are clean, but the family that owns this place needs to keep the outside area and parking more clean - buy a super-duper power washer and give the outside a good bath!!! have a new coating of some kind put on the filthy stairways. Please stop people from hanging their beach stuff on the railings. The staff can be friendly and helpful, but they do not even address guests when walking into the tiny "lobby", the guy that was at the desk was often slumped down behind the desk watching TV or using the one computer the hotel has.

The local area is very nice, go walking in beautiful, well-kept neighborhoods east of hotel, beach is clean, the pier is large with underground parking and many, many shops and restaurants, fresh cooked seafood, paddle boats to rent. Veteran's Park 1 block away is a nice grassy area, overlooks the ocean and a great playground. Police check often for homeless that sometimes hang around.

You can walk to beach, but not if you have any trouble walking - it is down steep hill. Redondo is a residential and quiet beach area, very good for families. Drive south to the RAncho Palos Verdes cliffs for fantastic views, quiet area tourist do not know about - there is Starbucks and many cute restaurants in Redondo's village, along the drive and at top of cliffs. Drive up to Manhattan Beach for very cute downtown with many cute restaurants. Hermosa i has the more Venice beach-like sidewalk for bikes, but Redondo has paved path but for slower riders.

I would stay again because Redondo is a great slow-paced safe beach town and because I don't spend a lot of time at the hotel. The area is convenient and safe.
