It does not look like much and parking is a pinch, but I stayed with my 2 children for one week and it was good enough. The rooms are large, never heard anyone next door, beds and pillows are not the best, so be tired and you will be fine, the bath towels are cheap. Pool and jacuzzi is very small, private, and freezing cold. On two different days I saw 1 prostitute (diff. girl, at pool and outside room). Breakfast is just good enough - packaged pastry, fresh fruit (2 types), low-grade coffee, juice, instant oatmeal. no coffee maker in the room, micro and fridge in large room. Internet is NOT high-speed, it kicks you off when using internet on your own computer every 30 seconds to 1 minute - totally useless. There is 1 old computer in the lobby, speed is so slow that it is useless. Starbucks is just north of the hotel - use internet there. The rooms are clean, but the family that owns this place needs to keep the outside area and parking more clean - buy a super-duper power washer and give the outside a good bath!!! have a new coating of some kind put on the filthy stairways. Please stop people from hanging their beach stuff on the railings. The staff can be friendly and helpful, but they do not even address guests when walking into the tiny "lobby", the guy that was at the desk was often slumped down behind the desk watching TV or using the one computer the hotel has.
The local area is very nice, go walking in beautiful, well-kept neighborhoods east of hotel, beach is clean, the pier is large with underground parking and many, many shops and restaurants, fresh cooked seafood, paddle boats to rent. Veteran's Park 1 block away is a nice grassy area, overlooks the ocean and a great playground. Police check often for homeless that sometimes hang around.
You can walk to beach, but not if you have any trouble walking - it is down steep hill. Redondo is a residential and quiet beach area, very good for families. Drive south to the RAncho Palos Verdes cliffs for fantastic views, quiet area tourist do not know about - there is Starbucks and many cute restaurants in Redondo's village, along the drive and at top of cliffs. Drive up to Manhattan Beach for very cute downtown with many cute restaurants. Hermosa i has the more Venice beach-like sidewalk for bikes, but Redondo has paved path but for slower riders.
I would stay again because Redondo is a great slow-paced safe beach town and because I don't spend a lot of time at the hotel. The area is convenient and safe.
