“Hidden Jem on the water in LA!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2011

We recently needed to get away, although we live in LA, and we came across this charming hotel! We read the other reviews and have to say, we found that many were just not true. Sure, every hotel is going to charge for things like parking, internet, mini bar (unless you are staying at a limited service), which this certainly is not! The location is directly on the water and the charm of the lobby and friendly service really make you feel like you got away without feeling out of place! The decor is nautical yet chic and they carried that right into the guest rooms!

They offer the complimentary beach cruisers and we rode all the way to Marina Del Rey! After the excercise, we were excited to find their restaurant, Baleen, had a happy hour and live music! The great thing was that we were able to have a comfortable and casual meal for breakfast downstairs along the marina, and then it seems like the upstairs is a whole different restaurant, as there are these great lamps that have rotating pictures, a very cool atmosphere and totally different than the day! While some say it's too expensive, most restaurants on resort grounds are a bit more, but this is worth it!

While there are several hotels along the beaches in the LA area, I have to say, what you pay at large resorts, this charming and smaller hotel has everything you need and worth the value. The only thing I would say, is that I wish their pool was updated and they had a spa! Otherwise, I definitely recommend this hotel for any type of stay!

Room Tip: Paying for the the ocean side is worth it!!!

Thank you for your recent stay and also for taking time to comment about it on Trip Advisor! We are glad you were able to use our beach cruisers and also come back and experience Baleen! We recently won Zagat scores that place us as one of only 21 restaurants in LA out of nearly 20,000 to have such high marks! Thank you for the nice comments about our team and we hope you will visit again!

We found the property to be very clean, and very beautiful. The staff was genuinely friendly to every single person not only on arrival but all throughout the day, offering to help when needed, very attentive. The managers were hard working, helped their subordinates instead of just "directing" them, and always on the alert. We were on the second floor, on the side opposite the ocean, but the grounds were beautiful and we enjoyed seeing all the varied buildings around it---a real feel of the whole of life around the area. The lobby and sitting areas upon entry were absolutely gorgeous, and clean, and it was very nice to have the lemon water and lemonade beautifully displayed and available at all times. We are not messy people, and do not expect---or want---the cleaning staff to wait on us as if we are helpless children. We picked up after ourselves, like adults, and made our bed, and enjoyed the integrity, cleanliness and quietness of the room. The lobby staff, and cleaning staff, was always available and asked if assistance was wanted or needed at all times. We could walk to MANY restaurants and enjoy the various sites. The only exception in the experience was paying to park; although it's common for the area, it is not universal.

Friendly staff, clean rooms, updated bathrooms and beautiful views of the ocean and harbor. Close to so many restaurants and entertainment!
BONUS: Great location next to the Seaside Lagoon- a safe, joyful and inexpensive place to spend the day with the younger kids without the worry of waves, no burden of packing a lunch or finding a bathroom.
Downside, parking was $24/day...but it was all valet and considering the location and the fact it is the only hotel on the beach in Redondo, we gladly paid it.

We would like to thank you for taking time to remark on your recent stay with us. Thank you for the positive feedback regarding the team, hotel, cleanliness and views (which we agree are great)! There are several things to do right within minutes of the hotel and right on property we have an award winning restaurant, Baleen! We understand the fee for parking and are certainly aware that most full-service hotels on the water do charge for parking. Thank you again for your pictures and comments!

I had high hopes for this hotel, and can't help feeling disappointed. For the duration of the stay it felt like the hotel's primary concern was to fleece you for as many $$$'s as they could, with providing a good service a poor second. Charges of $23 a day to park is extortionate. This hotel does not offer complimentary shampoo/conditioner/shower gel, but instead charges you $25 per bottle. On top of this, on returning from my trip I notice that I've been charged an additional $62.50 for god knows what. I'm currently waiting for confirmation of what the charge is for, but I'll be surprised if I get a response.

We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights, and on 2 of these were rudely awoken. Once by two members of staff wanting to check our fire alarm (does this need to be done at 9am?), and the second time by the fire alarm itself - there was no fire, but it was some sort of drill. If I am paying through the nose for accommodation, I don't expect to be treated like a second rate citizen.

While the hotel itself is ok (not great, but ok), the cost of being there put a dampener on the visit! I would not return.

First, please allow me to thank you for your candid feedback regarding your recent experience with us and allow me to apologize for any inconvenience you experienced. Recognizing that most full service hotels have charges for items such as parking, we do offer valet for the same rate as self-parking and the pricing is on par with the area. In addition, it seems as though there might be confusion regarding our complimentary amenities in the rooms. As part of our green effort, we have larger bottles of our product for your comfort and use. With so many of our guests, they like to take them home for their own use and at that time, we certainly welcome them, The $25 is to take the entire full size bottles home. Regarding the noise from the fire alarm, I apologize, as we did send out a notice due to the compliance with our local safety efforts and the city and should have communicated that properly. Please feel free to contact myself directly or our Front Office Management Team to ensure that your bill is properly detailed. Thank you again for your time.

When you are paying to stay in a hotel, you expect to receive the minimum, which is a comfortable room that gets cleaned everyday.

Well, that was not the case. We stayed 4 nights and 4 days in a row our room didn't get cleaned. We left the room in the morning and returned around 3 pm. to find an uncleaned room. We called the front desk and told them about it. This happened 3 days in a row and the last day was the worst. We left the room and came back at 3 to find the room undone. Called the front desk and left the room to allow time for House Keeping to clean it and returned at 5 to get ready to go out to dinner. Well, the room was still undone. The front desk was unapologetic, blamed it on House Keeping, but didn't solve the problem. We found a maid in the hallway. She told us that she was not with House Keeping, but that she would find someone to clean it. She ended up cleaning the room herself because the one maid who was left, refused to do it. She claimed that she had been left alone to finish the floor and had too many rooms to do. So, after a long ordeal we were able to get towels and shampoo in order to get ready.

The front desk people weren't at all helpful. They seemed annoyed if you asked them anything. We needed directions to the Getty and recommendations on good restaurants. My husband never gets upset and is quite tolerant of negligence but he was unhappy with this hotel.

The pool is a joke! There are 9 chairs and no view. The fence covers the little that you could see of the jetty and ocean.

Do not stay here. Unless, you plan on sleeping in an unmade bed every night.

The only pleasantry were the sea lions who have made their home close to the jetty, so you get to hear them all they long and see them play with each other. I left windows open at night, and was not disturb by them. However, other people weren't as happy about the friendly creatures.

We appreciate the time you spent writing the review of your stay back in August. The comments you noted regarding the cleaning of your room is very concerning, as we have such a wonderful housekeeping department and always receive high marks for our cleanliness on our comment cards. I will certainly look into this and ensure that our process is improved. While we clean rooms up until 5pm, we certainly should have communicated your request and followed up right away. The service at the front office is something that has been directly discussed with our Director of Rooms as our sole purpose there is to ensure you have all your needs met. With our future improvements we are looking forward to enhancing our pool area, so thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us, and all the service challenges are certainly fixable, so your comments are certainly appreciated. Thank you again.

A friend and I stayed here over the Labor Day weekend and had a great time. The hotel was very clean and the room was nice. The location was perfect to enjoy the South Bay area. Also, really enjoyed the free bike rental, nice touch! The staff was friendly as well.

This is our third time staying at this hotel and it seems to get better every time. Even though we haven't been there in a year the staff remembered us and welcomed us back. We were upgraded to a suite for our honeymoon. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a clean ocean front hotel with a laid back feel. Looking forward ton returning to this hotel again.
