I have stayed at many CP's all over the world. This CP is very good and I can easily recommend that you stay here. This CP is not a five star or excellent as others that I have stayed but could get there with a little attention to details.
The great: The staff! Amy was fabulously friendly when we checked-in on Christmas Day. For working on Christmas Day, she had a warm and wonderful attitude. Omar with valet was fantastic! He was extremely friendly and by the third day of our five day stay was talking with us as if he had known us forever. We were greatly impressed with Janid who helped us rent bicycles and offered us great tips for local restaurants that we would enjoy. She was exceptionally helpful and very customer friendly. She was not in a hurry to get rid of us but just talked with us as if we had known each other forever. Congrats on her new engagement too.
As a Platinum Elite, we were expecting an upgraded room. We were told that our room was an "upgraded room with a view." This is where this CP is different than the many others we have stayed in. The only upgrade was the view. There was nothing special about 5007. Or, if this was a special room, I would not want to stay in a normal room. Our room was a King room with lots of room. We had the normal amenities and the bed was comfortable. The desk was sufficient to spread out with my laptop and paperwork to work. There was a small refrigerator in the room but the temp could not be adjusted so our water bottles could not cool down. Another oddity in this room was that the "closet" to hang up your clothes was covered by a curtain. This doesn't look professional at all and it would be better to lose the curtain than to have it all.
There are "No Smoking" signs everywhere; yet, people smoked everywhere. People smoked below us on their balcony which meant we had to keep our door closed. You can see where people throw their cig butts on the ground below. This policy must not be enforced at all. Just outside the main door to the left is a big "No Smoking" sign. Yet, every day people were sitting right below this sign on the chairs... smoking away. No one said anything to them. These people may like cancer, I don't want it and don't appreciate having to walk through their smoke.
The breakfast on the 5th floor Club Lounge was simple yet sufficient to begin the day. There was cereal, eggs, muffins, fruit and a variety of drinks. Again, for a CP, surprising but acceptable. Certainly not on the level or even in the ballpark with the CP's in Beijing when it comes to breakfast.
The swimming pool and Jacuzzi for December were fantastic on the 2nd floor. There are no towels available so remember to bring a towel from your room. The area was clean and we enjoyed.
Major Gripe: Yes, I've read the reviews of others and the response of hotel management. Just because you believe that your parking fees are comparable to other establishments in the general area does not mean you have to charge your customers these ridiculous fees. Even as a Platinum Elite we were still charged the outrageous parking fees. Why not endear yourself to your customers and charge considerably less. Just because you can do it doesn't mean you should do it. We added more than $100 to our bill because of four nights of parking fees. Really? Parking fees... On this fee alone one should give careful consideration whether you stay here.
The local area: There are many, many things to do within walking distance. Straight across the street outside the main door is a Rubys restaurant. They were not busy and we ate their once. Within 100 yards or so there is a Cheesecake Factory. We ate outside and had a wonderful meal. This is not the nicest CF but the food was still excellent. Our server was very good and we would visit this restaurant again. The closest Starbucks is a good brisk walk; however, we did the walk a couple of times and enjoyed seeing other sights along the way. The beach is a good walk from the hotel. If you know this then it is not a problem. Just be prepared to walk if you want to enjoy the beach. The beach was wide and not busy at all during our visit. We really enjoyed this part of our stay. The piers and harbor provide plenty of interesting things to see. We loved watching people out in the harbor as well as all of the sea life. The fish market was very interesting. We even visited several times just to watch the people prepare the different types of seafood. Take a left out of the hotel and walk south and you will run into the fish market area.
We rented bicycles from the hotel and rode all the way to the LAX airport on the pathways next to the ocean. The bikes from the hotel were great and we received one free bike as a Platinum Elite member. The round trip took us right at four hours with us stopping a couple of times to enjoy the piers and lunch. Next time we want to go all the way to Santa Monica pier from this CP.
All in all, we had a fantastic stay. Here is my final analysis: this is not a five star property. Rooms are not spectacular but acceptable. At least they are very clean. Breakfast will get you to lunch time. Parking is RIDICULOUS - no matter what the hotel management wants you to believe. There is simply no excuse for their fees for hotel guests. What makes this hotel very good is the staff. We were impressed with their friendliness and helpfulness for our entire stay. We tipped each person who helped us (valet, concierge, housekeeping, etc.) and they are truly the ones who deserved it.

Many thanks for your positive reveiew and very extensive comments. Your level of detail allows me to follow up on the items you mentioned. We won't go back and forth on the parking fees, as you noted, you read my previous comments regarding why we feel that they are fairly priced.

I certainly appreciate your accolades for the staff members Amy, Omar, and Janid. I will be giving each of them our service recognition award as a result of your kind words.
Again, thank you for a very fair and accurate assessment of our hotel, and we hope to be able to welcome you on a return trip in the near future.
