“Great location but needs remodeled rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2012

We have stayed at this hotel numerous times over the last ten years when visiting our daughter. We love the location and the staff at the hotel. If you want to stay at a place where there are numerous restaurants within walking distance or a great place to take a bike ride this is it. The staff is very professional and willing to assist you in any way possible. We really like the help from the bellmen at the entrance who will help you with anything from your luggage to helping you with your bike. They are great. Now for the reason for the 3 star rating. Once you get on the elevators to go to your room you enter a world of an outdated hotel. From the elevators to the hallways and especially the rooms this hotel is very outdated. I have read for many months now they are planning to remodel but I see no evidence of this beginning to take place. I understand there is going to be a new hotel being built close by beginning early this year so maybe this will put a fire under Crown Plaza to actually get the remodeling done. Please replace those old and not very good picture televisions.

Thank you for your review, which was very positive overall. I note your comment regarding the outdated look of the hotel. Happily, we have a meeting tomorrow with our owners and our management company in order to review and approve the proposed guestroom renovation, after which we can give you specifics regarding when we plan to commence renovation. The televisions will of course be part of that renovation.
We look forward to your next visit.

Rooms are nice, location is excellent, close to everything. Parking is at a premium but you know that going in. Great restaurant on site (Splash). Oh and they still have some smoking rooms too but you'd never know it as there's no evidence so don't worry non-smokers

Thank you for your positive review. We do appreciate your nice comment regarding our Splash Restaurant. You are correct about the non-smoking rooms, we are in fact considering going 100% non smoking officially in the near future.

Just stayed at the Crowne Plaza for a few nights and had a pleasant experience. The room was comfortable and clean, staff were helpful. This would have received 4 stars but for the significant add-on charges. Parking a car overnight is $23 and WiFi is $10. Both of these are annoyances that detract from the experience. The other slight negative is the "water view" is not a close view of South Bay, but rather distant.

I was in town visiting Los Angeles from Chicago for the first time. This hotel is aging however, it is very well maintained. The staff and the service was superb. The hotel staff was friendly and accomodating. I loved that the hotel had an onsite Eatery called "splash" which was nice, kinda pricey but nice, as expected the service was good and the food was good.I also ate at Ruby's Diner across the street from the hotel and it was great also! I really liked the fact that there was a Golds Gym adjacent to the hotel and available for use 24 hours to hotel guests for free. I also went for a full body massage at the spa on the 2nd floor and it was AMAZING, the service was superb.I had a room that had a partial ocean view on the 4th floor, and the view was absolutely breath- taking as the visibility was great, you had a view of the mountains and the beach, also overlooked the pool and jacuzzi. It was great. The only downsides to this hotel is that the parking was expensive and that there isnt much light in the room especially the bathroom, and not many outlets. all in all it was a great stay. The beds were comfortable and the rooms are cute and cozy. If I come back to visit in the LA area this will definitely be my choice, just far enough away from the overcrowded LA area to be calm and peaceful, yet you feel right at home.

Room Tip: Choose rooms with an ocean view or that overlook the pool

We stayed at the hotel over the new year in 2011. The price we paid for the room was quite competitive, and the hotel upgraded us to a seaview room at no extra cost on check in since they didn't have any regular rooms with two beds as we had requested. Location is great for the airport and close to the beach, but a bit of a drive in and out of LA and the Anaheim attractions. The hotel and rooms were generally in good condition although the TV was a little old and didn't have great picture quality, and the bathroom door was a little odd - louvre design didn't really give much privacy. Major complaint about the hotel though was the add on charges. $23 - 27 per day to park, $10 per day per device for wifi. Breakfast in the hotel restaurant was full buffet at $23 or $16 for continental with no a la carte option - very overpriced for what it was. Room service was similarly highly priced for the quality. Overall I would not stay again because of the add on costs.

Stayed here for 3 nights post cruise. Room was very comfortable, and we had a side on view of the sea and a very small balcony. Didn't much enjoy the buffet breakfast at 'Splash' - found it to be very expensive when my partner only has cereal and tea, and yet they still charge full continental buffet price. I had the cooked breakfast, but there wasn't a lot of choice.
For our evening meals we ate via room service, and these meals were outstanding every time.
The location of the hotel was excellent, you could walk easily down to the harbour area, where there were pubs and eateries and a fish market at the end. The atmosphere here was lovely too. All in all a good hotel with friendly staff.

Locals know the best beaches near LAX are south of the airport. Redondo is the largest of the South Bay cities, and this may be the largest hotel in the area. Therein lay the problem, my room was not well vacuumed. Maybe the property is too big for this crew & mgmt. team to keep thoroughly clean. The property looks ok for its age but needs to improve. For example, the third floor hallway smelled, the TV was old, and it had only a handful of cable channels beside HBO (not even History channel!?). However, there are many benefits to this well situated property. The sliding patio door lets in the wonderful, clean ocean air. I had a sliver of an ocean view, and it is the best location for accessing the coastal bike path, the pier, King Harbor marina, and a nearby greenbelt jogging trail. The nearby triathlon store and numerous surf surfs indicate that this is fitness central. Gold's Gym is attached to the hotel, too. There are many food options such as Cheesecake Factory which is across the street, and Whole Foods just four blocks east. This hotel can be a good value if the room is booked at a deep discount. Also, be prepared to either pay $23 to park or walk a few blocks if parking in the residential area. I did not use most of the facilities such as the cafe, pool, or spa, but I can vouch for the friendliness of the late night front desk staff.
